Where is everyone thinking of staying?
What is the general concensus?

I am breading Penguins and Polar Bears as a way of offsetting my carbon emmisions.
Just doing the maths at the moment: i think 10 birds and 2 bears will do it.
Im not particuarly clued up though so may need some advise. -

maybe you should breed louisiana brown pelicans instead with that whole BP oil thing
-
• #109
are they brown cos of the oil?
-
• #110
i think they were brown before, they're just shinier now.

Who was thinking of driving
Apples, BAD?Cogs are maybe going to do a road trip of paris, munich and then Berlin for wildcard.
Polo Convoy?
-
• #115
Berlin's a pretty long way to drive, no? I was going to follow Rik's example of crazy cheap BA flights: Munich -> bus/train -> Worlds.
-
• #116
me too

• #117
What endangered species have you boys been breeding?
-

3 hours in a plane vs 11 hours by train is actually a fairly even footprint... and I don't have the nonce to work out infrastructure numbers.
Maybe I'll get some turtles and start breeding. Turtles are cool.

not really, flying london > NYC is the same per passenger as driving a volvo estate around the world.

It's ugly, but: London to Berlin (car is assuming three passengers - i.e., a polo team).
Component Unit............... Train.. Car... Aircraft Sum
Carbon dioxide kilograms.... 36,4... 64,0.. 125,8
Energy resource consumption 30,3.. 29,9... 58,3
Particulate matter grams..... 4,9... 19,2... 9,4
Nitrogen oxides grams........ 47,8.. 315,1. 425,0
Nonmethane hydrocarbons.... 4,4... 31,1.. 62,9Although, I would consider the smugness of someone bragging about their carbon-foot print to be on par with a flight from London to Berlin.

So planes are bad, mmmkay!?

Depends on the statistic, you can prove it either way... the skew is average capacity vs full capacity. But you're right, averaging out a few sources seems to put the train at ~50kg CO₂ vs the plane at ~200kg CO₂ for London to Berlin (my bad).
