She's on Bravecto. She's due another in October but maybe it's worn off already. She can have her October tablet this evening I think.
Over the last 3 days I think I've pulled about 12-15 off her.
I use 50% deet but I still find them crawling on my legs and arms. I had lyme disease once I really don't want it again. -

I'm no expert but I was under the impression the anti-tick medication deterred the ticks as well as protected our pups. A client's mum lost one of her dogs this time last year, she thought she'd save a bit of cash over the winter months not giving the dogs their monthly tablet. Cue hottest winter on record and one pup dying a few days before the first day of spring. Tragic business.

It's meant to, but the Bravecto must have prematurely worn off.
That's terrible about your client's dog. I had no idea they could die that quickly from a tick born disease. Was is a dog version of encephalitis? Lyme disease is slow as far as I know. -

No idea what actually killed the little fella, he got bitten, she left it a day before going to the vet and it was already too late. Spent a couple of days in hospital and passed away. Not good.

Idiots and then they look at you when you get them back as if it was your issue.

We found/still find these bed protectors useful for toilet training, accidents and muddy paws generally, pretty big and washable too.

I mean, this thread is full of pictures of cute dogs (and at least one goofy dog), but this picture just takes it to another level.

Do you remove water a couple of hours before bedtime? Also I used a house line/short leash to keep the pup outside till they had peed. After a couple of times they should understand the process

We do and it’s going pretty well all things considered. Thanks for the tips y’all. My turn to get a proper nights kip tonight so I’ll update tomorrow.

Margo Puppy Day 9.
Set up a pair of pet gates to make a good sized enclosure around the pup's crate which lives under the stairs in a basement kitchen. Last night was my turn to be on watch and was to be the trial of the pen set-up whereby she's free to come and go from her crate and pee and poop on the pad in the utility room. I was to sleep on a camp bed at the other end of the same room (it's a kind of open plan kitchen/dining/living room space) to comfort her if she needed and to make sure she didn't get out or get stuck.
As usual she woke up every hour for the first half of the night and whimpered to get out of the new pen and be taken for a pee. First time it happened, I thought i'd leave her for a bit in case she just needed to figure out the new set-up. A few squeaks and some scuffling and noises and... a happy little dog face popped up by my pillow. Yep, she can get through the bars. Great. Spent the rest of the night being woken up every hour or so as per. *le sigh
She's also been back to the vet because she's still very itchy and has scabs and raw patches behind her ears. The bad news is that she still has fleas and may also have mange. Joy. The good news is that she's put on so much weight that she qualifies for the proper oral flea-treatment and can now have a bath.
In other news I have made a logo (ripped off Mar-a-Largo obvs) to make a a "Lair-a-Margo" sign for her den. because I'm a besotted idiot and am too tired to do proper work.

Progress! I reinforced the gates with a load of plastic coated wire fencing (all sharp ends paintakingly removed - ask to see the blisters on my hands from two hours with wire cutters and pliers) and whole pack of cable ties.
Reader, she whimpered and mithered a bit, but she did get up and take herself to the pad for a pee (and a cheeky midnight poop) - and by the end of the night was going back into her crate and going back to sleep by herself. I'm wary of celebrating too soon but it does feel like quite a breakthrough.

Followed.
(don't be tempted to do a dog specific account. I tried and then discovered dog instagram is too painfully stupid to be involved with long term).Sounds like it's going as well as can be expected. This stage is hard even without the health issues. It passes very quickly and then you never have to worry about toilet training, etc again.
You will have to worry about teenage phases, interaction with other dogs, etc, but nothing as sleep depriving. -

Are goretex trainers the answer to wet socks from walking in parks?? I don’t want hiking boots or wellies on the school run.
Side not public access with Shadow is going really well, hairdressers, overground, tube and Canary Wharf for lunch this week.
H is holding the jacket lead about 40%, although H ‘s walking is much calmer with Shadow present. Not without its stresses but feels like travel in the right direction. -

Welll!
Welcome to my world. -

Goretex trainers will work until the membrane fails (and it will - my terrex hikers lasted a year tops). Now it’s waterproof sock time I think. I don’t want to buy new just yet there’s enough life left in them.

Took me into the second winter of dog ownership to accept that I just needed to give in to hiking boots.
I'm a big fan of waterproof socks for cycle adventures, but feel like wearing them every day through the winter would be a pain. -

I really rate Blundstone's for this quandary. Easy to put on/off, very comfy and most importantly super easy to clean. They do a water resistant version that i had for a while but the normal leather was still very good with proofing applied. Not 100% waterproof but held off the wet in most conditions. I only sold my waterproof ones as they were not getting used.
I tried gore-tex trainers and hiking boots, both got damp/stinky/filthy in no time.

Hmmm I should have also added I’m a twat who’s worn shorts almost compulsively since lockdown….so I'm pretty reluctant to go boots as obviously this will only add to the stupidity lolz
Anything else an option in a more trainer friendly vibe? Dipped in rubber?🤣 -

No one tells you this in advance, but you need an entire dog walking wardrobe when you get a dog, especially for winter.
I had a pad in the bathroom (next to the bedroom) and closed the other doors so they couldn't go anywhere else. They rarely actually hit the pad exactly but they got the idea well enough and could go themselves very quickly.
You're right that trying to get them to go outside is a bit ambitious.
Ew. Please don't.
