Thanks for the nice comments. I’ve passed them on to Odie, who seems appreciative!
Settling in nicely so far. Being very good with the kids, who are also being good with him. First night went surprisingly well.

Odie's been settling in nicely, getting to know his new family and home. Before we knew we were getting a puppy (Odie turning up was very much a last minute thing - we basically have re-homed an impulse lock-down puppy), we'd booked 2 nights camping which is this weekend.
I think we'd have definitely just bailed on camping had Odie not settled in much better than we expected. He's pretty chilled, seems happy and confident and is getting his toilet routine nailed etc. Are we insane for considering taking him camping after all? He's 11 weeks old, has had his jabs and will be clear to socialise on Friday, when we go.

My next door neighbour has a cocker spaniel. He’s a lovely little dude
The dog or your neighbour?
Keep the great dog pics and stories coming, folks. I’ve nearly got the gf convinced to try the borrow my doggy app again, after a lifetime of not liking dogs. To say I’m excited would be an understatement.

We borrowed a dog from borrow my doggy for over 2 years. It was great, would recommend.

They’re both lovely dudes, but my neighbour is an average sized human.
I keep failing to get good photos of the pup. He moves around a lot and he’s quite low contrast and hard to get good photos of :-D

Took our 12week old puppy to a social club today.
Large enclosure with maybe 10 other puppies, a few kids and an instructor.
Walked a few laps and let the dogs mingle. Ours was the only one on his first visit, fully expected him to stay with us and be a bit shy, but he was pretty involved and ran around a fair bit.
He prefers people and spent maybe a third of time with one kid or another, but he did well.
Recommend it if anyone has a puppy and wants them to interact with other dogs.
(The one I use is in Orsett, Essex so probably not ideal location, but I think Dogs Trust tend to offer something similar, if you're near one of those) -

I've got our lad booked in with one here in Bristol soon. Really looking forward to it.

This thread is inspiring. After much thought, we're gearing up to take the lead and get a dog.
Members of our family and many of our friends have dogs, and i love them all, so i guess it was just a matter of time for us - really looking forward to it. Mrs Carey has plenty of experience and we both agree something like a whippet would be best for all. We are probably settling on a whippet bedlington cross we've seen.
Can any recommend any great books or resources for training? And to help me with what to expect in the first few months or years!

The only advice I can offer is I once told a very experienced Whippet owner my sisters intention of getting a whippet crossed with a Beddlington and the Whippet owner told me to never get a breed anything with a Beddlington as it’ll turn out brainless.
My sister didn’t appreciate the advice and now has two very lovely but brainless dogs.

Search for 'Otto' in this thread and you'll see plenty of tales by @Stonehedge.

Have spent the evening scrubbing fox shit from Otto's face. Not in the mood to recommend a whippet to anybody right now.

We missed out on doing socialisation with our Cocker Spaniel puppy because of lockdown, she's now 6 months old and will play quite happily with other dogs on the beach (until she encounters a boisterous labrador and then hides behind your legs) but she is still very shy of people other than us.
The trainer we went to claims we've missed the window for improving that relationship with people but she's improved massively with other dogs in the past few weeks, and our other friends we've made with spaniels said theirs were shy of people until they were about a year old and came round

We didn't get the Frenchie, the search continues... We'd both love a Shiba Inu but they're difficult to get and not sure our garden would keep one in, they're very smart... Oh well...
And so it begins....
Meet Odie
