Any sooner Tommy?
I'm free between 7 and 8 this evening?
17mph is average speed if doing hills as well
if this is flat i dont see why 20mph is not doable
perhaps split it into 2 groups
I loled!
No way you can average 20mph for 120 miles
I loled again!

In a fast road bunch I can average 30-34kph (I think one day on L2P was 36kph) for 150-200k (not counting lunch stop) but these guys were seriously fucking fast. I've done enough forum rides to know that there's no way we would sustain that pace. Plus, you see nothing of the countryside except for the wheels and arses in front of you.

How about one fast group and one slow group. Slow group waits for stragglers. People who can't keep pace with fast group drop down. Aim for a date near summer solstice to allow plenty of day light. Early-ish start.

People who can't keep pace with fast group join hippy at the pub and raise a glass in a big "fuck you to this cycling bollocks" kind of way. We don't have to worry about light so much as it warms up, daylight shavings and stuff. I still prefer an early start, 1) to avoid traffic through and out of London and 2) contingency in case we do take far longer than expected.

Early start on the 20th June?
Let's do it.
I'll be dressed as a bumble bee

Father's Day. Don't you lot all run away to your childhood homes and play kiss-arse then?
-

I was about to suggest 27th but 20th is better, will leave 27th free for my birthday related messiness. Also about as close to the solstice as you can get.
My dad doesn't believe in Father's day.

If it does end up being 20 people I think splitting into two groups would be a good idea anyway.

Again, 15mph is a realistic pace to aim for. It may seem very slow to you now, but you can trust me that this is what we'll realistically achieve. I'm certainly not interested in going full out. I certainly wouldn't be able to average 20mph over 200km, no matter how flat it is or how good the bunch.

Yeah you would..

Can you do this in June please.

I completely agree that is why I loled, The number of people who can average 20 mph over 200 km geared let alone fixed on this forum are pretty low. A few of the ladies and gents that train alot and do some races I'm sure can but it's not an easy task to keep up an average of 20 mph.

So, everyone in for 20 June? Want to change the thread title if so Hippy?
-
• #97
20 June (subject to fitness) would be very good. It is the London to Brighton day but I'm not doing that this year.
-
• #98
20th works for me.
i won't be geared. -
• #99
20th is good for me too.
If this is going to be an early start, I guess us Norwich boys will need to stay in London the night before. -

That's father's day, by the way. I'm in though.
I'm touring the third and fourth weeks of July, can we avoid those?
