  • I like having two arguments going on in one thread at the same time.

  • Pengy has a pump, and lots of other useful bits and bobs. win!

  • I love the way a forum joke "531 is awesome" is now taken as a statement of fact
+1, who was the stupid idiot that started this, he should be stoned!!

  • In fact...

What if Pengy was made of 531 awesomeness and the tight clearance frame was made from modern gaspipe.
Which would you ride then, eh? eh?

  • not wrong there, dale

  • 531 must be full of awsome. Where else is all that weight coming from?

  • In fact...

He probably was at the time...

  • Am I the only one who missed it?

Your post basically said "if you give someone the choice between a shit bike, and the bike that I like, people wouldn't choose the shit bike, therefore the bike that I like is better than other types of bike that were not included in the choice".

    Great logic there!

Unless i've missed something, if I have, please be kind enough to point it out for us less intelligent than yourself.

    Many thanks, Brum.

You misquote me, again. I said, you put something in there that has the geometry of a barn gate ...and something a little sportier...and regardless of which I think is the 'sportier' bike...
Everyone from this thread would still pick the 'tighter' looking bike, and that is true.

and yes...even if pengy was 531 awesomeness...and the track frame was made from gas pipe...they would still pick the track frame...

it's that simple. look at unipacks..?

    Fail.

    Well, you actually.

crap. where did the term vintage lightweights came from. 531 is awesome tubing, my old holdsworth mistral from the 60's, was feather light even with chromed ends.

531 is double-butted (thick tubing at ends and thinner in the middle). if you tap your nail alongthe tubing it will change sounds in the middle, more tinnier.

"531 is awesome tubing" t-shirt is on the way, with token pair of risers ;)

    Fail.

    I wouldn't.

  • I wouldn't.

    Fail.

    Fantastic, natural selection wins...keep spinning that p o s....

  • 'toyght, very toyght'

  • Well, you actually.

    errrrrr irony detection fail?

  • Oh rub it in Miss Marple.

  • Fantastic, natural selection wins...keep spinning that p o s....

...erm do you understand natural selection at all? I don't get how it's relevant to this conversation.

I have two bikes with what you might call "the geometry of a barn gate" and they're the two bikes that I use the most. Go figure!

  • +1, who was the stupid idiot that started this, he should be stoned!!

    Well, you actually.

I think that was the joke, Ed...

    edit: beaten to it!

  • ...erm I don't get how it's relevant to this conversation.

Great, thats the evolutionary leap then, you going against the grain and doing something everyone wouldn't, probably to prove a point.

See what I'm getting at now?

The point in question was...you put a load of track bike enthusiasts in a room full of bikes...and no means to weigh them...

and they would look at geometry and clearance...to ascertain the better bike...

and there you are with pengy.

without writing it in 10ft high letters now do you get it? or would you like to get closer to the blackboard?

  • The point in question was...you put a load of track bike enthusiasts in a room full of bikes...and no means to weigh them...

No hands and arms? Neither bike would be much use.

    Uh, no.

I don't ride the less twitchy bikes to prove a point to someone on the internet that I never have, and probably never will meet. I ride the bikes I do because I enjoy it, not because of some arbitrary numbers or a spec sheet.

People who judge how good a bike is by looking at it's geometry and clearance, are, in my opinion, a bit intellectually challanged.

And if you have no means to weigh them, how can you judge between 531 Awesome, and gas pipe?

Sorry, but i'm still not following you.

  • No hands and arms? Neither bike would be much use.

I was gonna bring that up, but maybe they were just placed behind some of that red rope that they have at museums etc.

  • And if you have no means to weigh them, how can you judge between 531 Awesome, and gas pipe?

Sorry, but i'm still not following you.

If you don't follow it...then it's perfectly obvious whom is intellectually challenged.

  • Care to enlighten us then?

Also, do you judge a bike's quality on its geometry and clearance? A yes or no answer will do.

  • @the original poster.

Reckon the Chainline will be miles off with a Freewheel screwed on with that wheel ... I know mine was with my old Regidas were when considering them for my current SS/Fixed Bike.

Sometimes it better to rip everything off that is old and useless and start again. Get a new set of wheels and drive chain and you will thank yourself for it in the long term.

  • Reynolds have just trumped everyone again, introducing the first homeopathic tubeset.
By making their tubes thinner and thinner, they eventually get to purest awesome, making a very effective frame, much better than those which actually contain some steel:
