The ad is aimed at people like me who are young and easily influenced, not the 'old time' cyclist not saying all young people are gonna think this is great and go out and by a leader so they can ride faster, but it's unlikely a more mature cyclist will find this cool.

yup^
Im interested in how things come to be regarded as cool, risky, all of that, and especially in adventure. Theres clearly something going on because just about every bike shop I go past has got an OTP fixed in the window,
with the risk thing, how is it that going to Queenstown New Zealand to bungee jump is seen as adventurous?
When you consider the plane trip, easy travel, commercial operators, complete lack of risk in tying an elastic band around your leg and jumping Its about as adventurous as going for a cup of tea in M &S, ...goes back to what James was saying. -

its about perception of risk vs real risk
though with this video, he does something that (possibly) looks cool to the uninitiated - though probably appears to be low risk
in fact it is fucking stupid and dangerous
often chosing to play with our perceived notion of risk can leave us feeling exhilarated (eg bungee jump or roller coaster), though when it is forced rather than chosenit becomes very different (eg car coming too close, being threatened by an armed robber etc), our reaction is fear rather than the high of chosing to do an activity that appears high risk but actually has all the risk removed

There have been some shite, boring comments on this thread and some nice, open-minded ones. I liked the latter. I like Massan's giant Sugino Zen ring.
