  • Don't be too hard on yourself, I have big respect for doing those hills on fixed. I wouldn't be able to.

  • Hey Oliver, thanks for asking. It's coping, and manageable, but it has never been back to normal normal. I do have tight back muscles all the time and that usually leaves me when I am warmed up. Also having weird locking feeling in the right hip, I guess a symptom of sacroiliac joint inflammation or something. I am working on it, albeit less than when it was very acute. I guess I'll have to live with some discomfort from now on.

    On the upside I am able to do this kindo stuff, and I think this year I will attempt DD and make up for the letdown of last year. My plan overall is to do about 6 100km rides and a 200 audax at the end of the year, so I hope I'm doing alright.

    Glad I have gears and a bike that fits me. Will go to the bikewhisperer at some point and get cleats and stuff adjusted.

    That all sounds good! Give it some more time and with disciplined exercises I'm sure it'll get better. I now seem not to feel my sacroiliac problems much any more, after a lot of yoga.

    The elbow hasn't seemed to get much better the last two weeks. I was back on a bike briefly yesterday, though. I'll see my GP this week just to be sure, or I'll go back to the fracture clinic. I've been told I should definitely get a little bit of physio now, or massage. I hope to be able to join you lot on one of these rides soon!

    this will help.

    Following on from the continued success of our borrowing this route and my continued inability to climb 2 of the hills on the route without pussing out, the decision to repeat on 65" was made on the train back from Effingham yesterday.

    As always this is about 30 miles of hilly riding with several fast descents, we're looking at 4 or 5 climbs. By my non expert standards they're all judged at above "ouchy". One is judged as "fucking hurty". It's a maximum of 3 hours riding. The first ride was 6 climbs and took about 3 hours. Yesterday's ride was 4 climbs and 2 and a bit hours. So somewhere between 2 and 3 hours of decent paced riding.

    Things to know:
    It takes about an hour to get there on the train from Waterloo.
    We will regroup at junctions and no one will be abandoned.
    It's a nice paced, sociable ride in the countryside on some hills, with a stop at the end before we get the train home for a pint / cup of tea.

    NOTE: EARLIER START SO WE CAN CATCH THE 10am TRAIN.

  • I'll hopefully be joining. What are the hills like compared to Ditchling Beacon, for example.

  • i've walked up ditchling and i've walked up whitedown.
    the walk up whitedown felt worse.

  • I'm aiming to use my biggest chainring later this time ... 34/28 and it still hurt.
    That said I thought leith hill and whitedowns were pretty much on par, and it helped that I knew I did get up leith hill to instill confidence I'd make it up the last one riding.

  • Anyone fancy some hilly stuff this Sunday? I was thinking I'd like to ride to Brighton. 8am start would be 2pm back in London I think.

    So, surrey again next time? You thought about some less 'honest' routes? The Welwyn herts/beds one was a really nice ride, I'd like to do that in lovely lovely daylight.
