I'll probably start turning up for these if they go through the winter, I've got a few good routes in Surrey and some in Kent if that's allowed.
will convert the track bike
Your track bike is the only bike that can remain shiny and new looking/feeling no matter how much use you give it on the track. I hate the thought of riding mine in the countryside, let alone through winter.
Each to their own though :-)

So, yesterday I was kindly invited for Dinner by 6pt and we had a couple of beers as well and then came up with the idea to have an "SSTC mud edition" some time, where we hire some MTBs and go round Leith Hill and the usual area on single track.
Since I only have been doing a couple of rides on MTB and Tom never has, we probably will need like something like a coached session, so we might hire a coach as well or is someone of the lfgss fame experienced and willing to lead such a ride?
Anyone interested or got ideas how much that would cost for a small group?
EDIT:
Linky Linky ... http://www.mountain-bike-guiding.co.uk/privategroup.htm
or http://www.surreyhillsmountainbikeguides.co.uk/information/price-list.php
As long as there is someone that knows the trails well and a couple of people that have experience of mountain biking a coach shouldn't be needed.
I know someone who lives amongst the hills near Dorking who might be able to lead this kind of ride for the price of a few beers. Some of the regular mountain bikers on here would probably help to.
My recommendation is to do it in the snow, lots of fun, less people to get in the way of and you wouldn't be missing out on a road ride.

Very good point.

I just bought a new winter bike. As it is from Purley it will even have a Surrey Hills cassette on the back :-) @ pascalo and 6pt re. the mountainbiking, remember gearless society from our Surrey Hills earlier this year? He has been building a few mountainbikes over the summer and we will be definitely up for this. I know somebody from North Drinks who mountainbikes Surrey Hills regularly. I will ask next time whether we can join?

haven't done barhatch yet ... might be an experience ... cough.
Alternatively we can go out via Crystal Palace and ride down to York Hill ... then up York Hill again. Still got some stuff on my garmin. Some killer ones down there as well.Hey, Marco, haven't seen you in a long time. Looking forward to catching up at some point?
Damo, how did your swing go this morning?

it went well, i went off to Richmond Park. I thought, being relatively out of shape at the moment, palace exploration might be a bit much. plus, i wanted to look all "roadie" on a saturday morning....
i failed at looking "roadie". but did have a nice time. so win!
get out there today, it looks great. -

Good to hear, good to hear.
To my shame, the wet weather in the early morning prevented me from doing anything but housework, which lasted for so long that I didn't manage to get out of the house apart from a short one to the post office :( -

^ Gears ready yet?
-
• #2395
Pascal: i feel your pain on housework. i came home from Richmond Park, ate, and then cleaned the house top to bottom.
Today is ironing. I iz not happy about this as i want to put my mudguards on the onebike/mum talk
Wools: not yet, i've got some cranks coming (hopefully), new tyres and new brake pads should be it i think. next month.

Onebike? What is this?
My iron only comes out if there's a wedding, interview or court case approaching. Oh, and if the heater's on the blink.

Sure will be nice at some point, difficult now to say when...
Many things happened, including a very problematic surgery(wisdom teeth), then will be a long trip in Thailand...
No real riding from a while:( -

Sorry to hear. If life gets in the way, so be it. Chances are that you'll get back into it, just like me after the back injury last year.
Maybe we should do an SSTC drinks session some day when the weather is shit and no riding's on anyway?

:d
Winter tyres also recommended. Nothing worse than fixing a puncture in nasty weather. I roll with them all the time, cos I hate punctures. Don't tell hippy, but I would recommend Continental GP Four Seasons.
