  • as usual.

  • SSTC "Not Brutal"
    Sunday 5th September
Meet at Waterloo at 10:00 for the 10:27 train to Leatherhead, arriving at 11:15 http://www.bikemap.net/route/667297

An easy paced ride with just two significant climbs, Barhatch (21%) and Whitedown (18%).
    Pub at the end.
    Weather check day before.

    Train list:
    1) marcom
    2) damo

  • It was non-timid exploration, sans Garmin, that resulted in 'The Learning Curve'.

Perhaps you'd all prefer it if I got a Garmin :/

  • I found York Hill solely through use of Garmin, and as such would vote towards their usefulness. Nice to head out into the wilds of somewhere and know the way home for when you get tired.

  • But if a Garmin told me to go up a bridle path I'd tell it to fuck off.

(very much of the timid exploration camp)

  • I found Yorks Hill by entering a race there, and then using a map to facilitate a pre-event reccy. It probably wasn't even an online map. [/retrogrouch]

  • Funny, Garmin sometimes tells me to cycle parallel to a road, offset a few meters to either the left or to the right.

"The hedge row might puncture my tires", I tell it, but it won't listen.

  • And are folk riding this Sunday and/or Monday or is that on a different thread??

  • jenny: don't think there's many riding this weekend. defo on for 5th.
from what i understand: i'm doing the white boy shuffle, pistolero is painting his bathroom, friday might be free on monday, j+v are doing the e4 ride.

    i think that's it.

  • Not me, knee still troubles me.

  • i have that book Nick.

i like the look of the exmoor climb. and also some of those nasty yorkshire hills.

  • I'm prolly cycling on Monday, out of interest. The more it rains during the week, the more I'm inclined toward a bit of pain/relief come the weekend.

In fact, my current plan is to attempt a day trip to the peak district, starting at the crack of dawn on Saturday (I had to start somewhere). My girlfriend has then offered to beat my calves with an egg whisk on Sunday. Finishing off, I'd like to try this on the Monday (cheers Tom).

I'd be up for company on Monday, but only on the understanding that I'm a woefully inept navigator and that I'm terrified of people.

*^For some reason I keep cocking up my post, which will explain why you're responding to what I've written before I've written it. Terribly sorry.

  • either that or i am truly allseeing and all knowing.

I have medication that'll help with that, Damo...

  • tika:monday or sunday?
jenny: if you mean the rest of the population will realise i'm all seeing and all knowing, can you start putting it in the water supply? thanks.
