I'll throw down the gauntlet - you need to beat the 3:39:35 I recorded doing the event last year for it to be considered a benchmark. :P
You're on! Only I won't beat it because I recall you mentioning your average speed for that somewhere else and there's no way I can maintain that up all those hills. Friday could though. With mudguards.

That apart, she's doing very well and is getting very close to becoming mobile.
...and after that, all hell lets loose...

So thats a whole 29 seconds slower than the absolute fastest time anyone rode it last year then?
-
• #1505
It might be. I started and finished with the guy in second place, so could justifiably argue my time should be identical to his (we rode most of the event together).

18.5mph-ish all the way round. Quite nippy, really.

Cycling goals 2011:
... to do one of them european climbs.
Maybe we should organize a SSTC in the Alps/Pyrenees excursion?
^
werd!we should.
So what do you think guys? Shall we do some planning?
-
• #1508
we should.
right. so what's closest?
my inlaws have a house in the massif central (it's in a bit of a state, but, who knows, it might be ready next year...)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massif_Central#Mountainsare they big enough?

I'd look at what's easiest to get to, rather than what's closest.
Do you want to do a long weekend, a week long trip, stay in one place, do a point to point trip, ride climbs the Tour de France use or something else?
-
• #1510
long weekend would be long enough for me.
i like the idea of france (easier to get to isn't it?) though hill climbing in the netherlands is suddenly very very appealing.
i'd personally like to do a different long climb each day starting from a central point.
where's a good place to start looking for info? -

My head. ;-)

right then.
(i was going to write this like a dear jim, but bored myself halfway through....)we are a bunch of newly addicted cycling types. we're under the impression that we like climbing hills. we'd like to do a spring/summer type weekend in foreign, climbing (not walking) some of the big climbs what we done seen on the tellybox.
where would you recommend that we could get from london to foreign for a long weekend that would feature a central starting point, a ride a day that features one proper climb a day that'll make us say "fuck, yeah! THAT WAS ACES. " and take pics of us at the top all sweaty and broken?
i think france would work, though i like the idea of spain as well. or the canaries.
restricted by budget (always), not wanting to fly ryan air, somewhere that has two or three good summits to get to the top of, and the location of good ice cream/beer afterwards.any recommendations greatly appreciated.

I'd look at somewhere like Annecy or Grenoble. Both offer plenty of climbing options and are fairly easy to get to.
Don't discount the Eurostar/TGV option either - if you change at Lille you can avoid Paris completely - and it means your bikes will a) arrive with you and b) be in full working order.
Let's talk more next Tuesday on the TNRC.

i'm totally down with the train vs plane.
TNRC it is.

+1 to a long weekend's climbing. With knobs on.

^^I'm going to put the hammer down if I have to listen to your travel plans.
-
• #1517
You're fat and out of shape aren't you? :P
-
• #1518
I would want to come if you think you could put up with me for that duration of time. I spend a lot of time when I'm not on the bike sleeping, if that helps.
-
• #1519
I'm well up for any sort of foreign escapade..........take that as you will
-
• #1520
crikey. SSTC on tour.
right then. well.
let's leave this as one of those in the air discussions and we'll shape it up further over the next couple of months. -
• #1521
I'm pencilled in for a week trip around July next year (maybe Corsica!) but a long weekend before that would be f'n brilliant.

Chaps, I would be up for some sort of cycling trip.
A friend has an aunty with a house in Samoens that is big enough for about 10 people. It has table football and is about 40 miles from Geneva (easyjettable)
Nearby "attractions":-
Ramaz
Joux Plane
Colombiere
Morzine - AvoriazI am going there next Thurs (with bike) so will report back.
Also worth a look might be one of the Italy trips organised by Luciano cycles

I was very tempted by the Gran Fondo Prosecco this Octobr but flights have become too pricey.
