  • I paid £400 for mine a year ago with two lenses (box, CDs, leads etc)...

  • if my lens in defiantley compatible i ll get it :/ as lens cost load too :/

  • its a F75 :/

  • I'm toying with the idea of getting rid of mine... Lemme know if you don't win that one, maybe we can come to some kind of deal...

  • PM'd

  • Any issues with using film lenses with digital camera?
I'm thinking of getting an FD 50mm 1.4 and a FD to EF converter so I can use it on my AE1 and 350D.

I got one last year and have only used it a few times mainly because of the extra bulk of taking my FD lenses as well.
Here is a shot of my youngest who was thrashing her head at the time Canon 400d, 50mm FD lense and EF/FD adapter 1/400s . f/1.4 . ISO 400 . 50 mm

I took the gamble as I have a few FD lenses for my Canon AE-1 35mm, DOF is very shallow and focusing is more critical but it does work.

  • Bought a Ricoh GRD2 (from wools, thank you sir) and have been playing with it today. I quite like the results - with shooting in RAW and fiddling of settings I've got some nice results. The 1.1 aspect ratio is enjoyable too (border added in pshop)

One slightly annoying thing is that the distance at which the camera focuses to infinity seems to be about half a metre - so if I'm shooting a subject further away than that, even at f2.4, the DoF is not noticeably shallow. Since this is my first digital camera I have no idea why this is... perhaps this is down to the small sensor (?). Considering that the whole camera is smaller and lighter than the lenses for my film SLRs, I can't complain too much, and a wide-angle lens ensures that the subject is usually close to the camera anyway.

  • DoF is rarely/never shallow on digital compact with the exception of those with a larger sensor (like 4/3rd, APS-C, etc.)

Think of it in relation to aperture - the smaller the aperture (F/11) the more depth of field, the sensor is already quite small thus creating a very large depth of field, so your assessment is right.

you may get a shallow one with macro/closed up, but that's about it.

Umm, can I have my camera back please? :) Glad you're enjoying it. Reckon I'll get another in the future when I've stopped fiddling about with film.

  • How do people go about portable and cheap lighting solutions?
I have to do some homework of a Gregory Crewdson style shot so will need some awesome lighting (tomorrow) :-s

  • rent?

  • skint. :-s
it's not serious so don't want to go all out. I'm happy to experiment with lighting solutions.

Could also do with some faux fog somehow...

  • i've done crewdson stuff before, although not on such a grand scale, with lamps and torches

  • Fauz fog - smoke genade. Usually about £3 a pop.

Lights - use torches and long exposures if you can't get hold of any flashguns.

  • I've got a Crumpler "Ben's Pizza XXL" bag for sale, been used about 5 times so pretty much perfect nic. The current equilavent is £40 (the cupcake), so yours for £15.

    Looks like this:

    But blue piping.

  • ^ i've got that for my 5d, great bag for the money

  • Ben, how big is your XXL?

  • Some people would do well to keep their juvenile thoughts to themselves.
Now, Ben, how big is it? Google suggest it is not as big as the XXL name suggests.
I am thinking one body and two lenses; but if my long one was fully extended would I still be able to cram it in there?

  • 25x18x12cm-ish. Body and two lenses should be fine, might even be able to fit a flash in there, though that depends on how long is your long one?

    Fnar, fnar, etc...

  • dibs

  • Smart. You can pick it up tonight if you want, otherwise I can deliver tomorrow afternoon.

Oh those are the internal dimensions btw (thought they'd be more useful).

  • Lovely. Hopefully I won't stretch the insides too much when I cram it with a full load.

  • I know I'm a bit late to the game here but I've just got my hands on a new (to me) sigma DP1, wow this camera is great. Even shooting at 3200 in black and white I'm impressed.

** Naff picture just to prove my point.**

This has become my portable camera for when I don't want to carry a 5D around.

  • Managed to snap the little lock tab on my SD card. Thinking it wouldn't matter, popped it back in the x100.

Apparently, the little tab makes it writable, so the card is fucked without it. Somehow, the plastic above the tab also splintered off, and made the card completely stuck in the camera.

    Fucking shit frightening.

Finally got it out, with what looks like no damage to the camera. Who made those little tabs so flimsy!?
