Hmm.
I'm looking at this one, although 'electronic focus confirmation' is a new thing to me.

Sounds like he used it on his 7D which means it will work with yours too. My thought s on the auto focus with these mounts is that by wanting a 50mm t1.4 lens you are wanting shallow DoF and never going to be shooting landscapes so will be focussing by eye anyway and don't need to worry about infinity.

All the focus confirmation is, is the little green light/beep that comes one when you (approximately) hit focus - there is just a chip on the adapter to tell it that there is a lens attached (as without it it thinks there isn't a lens and therefore doesnt offer focus confirmation)
As mentioned - FD is also one of the other mounts that has a shorter flange distance than EF - so it won't focus to infinity.
If you are looking at buying old lenses - look at m42, OM, C/Y, K mount or Nikon mount as they are all easily adaptable with cheap adapters and will focus to infinity

Thanks very much for the info guys, much appreciated. It's clearly best to save for a digital one which I will do.

Where is a good place to get a lot of prints done for a reasonable price/quality? I don't need anything fancy but I have loads of photos that need to be put into a cheesy scrapbook for both myself and some friends. I've used bonusprint before which was fairly decent and a good price but is there a better service out there?

Does anyone want a Canon 20D in excellent condition (and I mean excellent) with standard lens, charger and battery?
£250?

Great camera if not a little heavy. Built like a tank compared to other canons. Mine is pretty beat up but still functions perfectly. Will last an age.

Harold - jessops. They always have offers on (there is a 25% off deal on at the moment I think), and over 100 images works out pretty cheap.

Ah great will give them a look. Will make it easier if I can just bring in a disc rather than doing an epic upload.

Oh and I must say your photos really are rather lovely.

The future? Lytro Light Field Camera allows you to select the DOF after you have taken the picture

For me I wouldn't be happy having the power taken out of my hands creatively if images were interactive when they were displayed like that...but I suppose if you could output in standard image format / they were printed, refocussing would be cool. Still just another step of the horrific and unstoppable 'dumbing down photography' juggernaut in some ways...

Ha Ha. I just spent the weekend operating a 5D as a video camera and i really sympathise with him at the moment!

I understand what your saying

What was that open letter is about? I mean what is he saying?
replacing my Sigma DP1 for a Fujifilm Finepix X100, hopefully it'll be a worthly replacement (and finally be able to do night shot with it without resorting to the DSLR).

On a beach in Calabria, Mrs U tried to take a photo of a bug on my hand, not realising it looked like I was holding a cocktail umbrella.

Wow, I'm very impressed with the Fujifilm Finepix X100 at 6400ISO, it's not perfect, but it's surprisingly usable, straight from the horse's mouth;

That's better than the M8 at 640.

Did you buy one in the end ed?

second hand one that's pretty much brand new.
i am liking it, just a bit annoyed that (not unexpectedly) Adobe did not add RAW support for the camera on CS3.
Really can't afford to get an upgrade.
Does FD lenses work on EF with adapter? Think I've remember reading that it's a no no?
