  • B, I researched a load of high end compacts a while back. Not sure what new cameras are out now but the RX100 basically blew all the others away in all aspects. I had a quick play with it though and just found it a bit fiddly, didn't quite like the feel of it.

The s120 is pretty pocket friendly, and if you're lucky, you may still be able to pick up the s110 which isn't much different, on a ridiculously reduced deal - though I'd guess it's prob a bit late now.

  • How soon do you need it? Cause this looks pretty epic:

    That's just ridiculous glass!

  • No, this is ridiculous glass:

  • ^Bad photoshop is bad.

Tbh from my experience with the LX5, the one thing stopping me going RX100 is the lack of a 24mm at the wide end.

  • So that's where the Holy Grail went....

F/2.8 max? that'd be fantastic as my RX100 max out at F/4.9 at 50mm (equation).

  • But you still need to get a lens on that.

    Fuck it - go ghetto-pinhole, lenscap-style.

  • Anybody want to swap a lens, even temporarily. Nikon 35mm 1.8 for something wider. I want to see nose hairs.

  • For well is it

Playing with the add on viewfinder for the GX1. Think I like it :)

Nice. That shadow one is great.

  • Experiment at the track that doesn't really work, I wanted the cyclists out of focus and everything else sharp but it turns out this looks shit and unintentional rather than being clever. I was drinking quite a lot.

  • It was an interesting idea and I actually think it worked well for the middle picture because it's more like the cyclist is in the foreground of the picture rather than the other two where out of focus cyclists fill most of the the frame making it look a bit busy.

  • I definitely prefer it to the rather unartistic pictures I was taking.

yeah I wish I had a wider lens for a lot of things that day, this was awkward for the distance at trackside

Would definately help if there was more / more interesting background that is sharp, and cyclists being even more blurred.

  • I think the first two both work - within the limits of what you had available - the first with Colin in focus in the top R/H corner looking on - and the second with the two spectators.

I think it would work a lot better if the hoardings we're more neutral, but I like the idea

Disagree, 2 and 3 are good, if the backgorund was a clearer subject there'd be even better...especially if you were commissioned by De Ver. A slightly slower shutter speed would add motion blur, giving the sense of extreme speed these riders reached!

    Something like this?

Think that was Tour of Britain 2009. Remains my favourite ever shot by quite a long way.

  • I didn't want to blur them, there is a long super wanky explanation for why in my head for these pics but basically it's about how cyclists come and go on the track which pretty much stays the same. So the tight focus is wrong too as it needs more of what's around the cyclists on the track.

Also photos of motion blurred fast cyclists look interesting and I like boring photos; I would've avoided or cloned out spectators if this worked better or if I try it again some time

    ^^
    This is great tho!

  • Yea, nice one Brun!

    Lolz
