That reminds me. I went into Fixation (£500 repair on my 70-200 FML), and had a play on the Nikon Df. I can honestly say it's the worse camera I've ever used in my life. Seriously Nikon, wft? Sure the sensor is great (really great by all accounts), but it's impossible to use. You can only change the ISO by the dial. Try doing that in the dark. And it's horrible to hold.
Rant over.

The ISO thing must be deliberate to get you back into the spirit of film, where you didn't have these modern
conveniencesdistractions like changing ISO in an instant, just pure photography with you and the camera. -
• #5484
Ha! Yes quite. Though, really, if a person wanted to do that they could just shoot, say film?
Or my favourite concept camera that pops up every now and then: a digital camera with no LCD.

More seriously, I think the big failing of the Nikon DF is that the control surfaces don't really work when you don't have an aperture ring. So, on both the DF and the XT-1 you have to press a button to twiddle the aperture and the iso knobs - but on the Fuji you can change the aperture quickly, which means you can basically shoot semi-manual with shutter priority, which quite a few people have learnt from the film days. On the Nikon you have to twiddle a dial irritatingly slowly
Or you can shoot aperture priority and set the iso and the shutter on auto, but again I quite like being able to change the aperture quickly and the Nikon is too twiddly.
I'm curious to see what the reviews of the XT-1 are like in any case. For this year I'm sticking to a 35mm equiv fixed lens though, so I can take my time I guess.
Edit to add - the DF is basically made for people who want to turn aperture rings on 30 year-old lenses and not pay film processing, isn't it? Which is probably a tiny subset of people with Nikon glass.

The x-t1 just has much better though-out controls. The Df has a PASM dial which just seems a little pointless with all those knobs. With the Fuji, each dial has an "A" at the end for making that particular function automatic, like say, shutter speed and Iso. The Nikon is just confusing in that regard.

There is a finger and thumb dial on the Df for aperture and shutter just like all other Nikon DSLRs, it's just they are in awkward places.

I like the blues and golds in the third photo.

Dislike Contax in general, but would love to have a go at this..

Some shots from my GX1 and Oly 45mm F1.8.
Really nice wee combo. I'd love any feedback on my shots as I'm just starting out.

Nice.
Straighten it, and maybe take the line right to the bottom left corner? You can always move the moon to the right a little.
Practice your panning. The jiggly text on the front of the bus is distracting. I'd crop the top a little to get rid of that small band of white. I like how the bus looks like it's taking off!
Great. Good juxtaposition of textures between the shadows and the sand.
Crop this to more of a 16:9 shape, i.e. panorama. It's good, but that sky is just dead space. I'd clone out the aircraft (?) lights too.Hope that helps. You in Edinburgh?

Does such software exist where you can automate the process of tagging images using facial recognition or something? I'm thinking for use with grip and grin event photography and the like...

I think picassa does something like that

Cheers, sohi! I'll have a looksy. If anyone has any other suggestions I'd be most grateful. Ta! x
