  • It can be a little off putting, but not something you can't get used to.

  • True but it's the main reason I don't use my eos M anymore.

Ideally I'd like to find a digital compact that has an optical finder and relatively fast prime lens but short of shoving a digital sensor in a broken gr1 I doubt I'll be able to .

  • Sell EOS M and GR1, buy Fujifilm X100.

I very certain you'll quickly get used to it, especially with the APS-C sized sensor and the manual control.

  • The GR1 stays!

I am keen to try the x100 though so might sell the eos M and some bike bits.

  • X100 is great. Also, you can pick up a 28mm finder for the GRD if you want one, although admittedly they're not all that cheap.

  • I keep forgetting how expensive digital cameras are, I might just sell the eos m to buy more film and pay for processing, and back to the other thread I go :)

The x100 still intertests me though!

  • I used to shoot a lots of films in the past, but because of my income (and custom bicycles), I end up getting a digital because it's cheaper in the long term.

  • @ Timmy: Tamron 17-35mm 2.8-4 with both caps: £150

Is this the Di LD Aspherical (IF) one?

Definitely this one. Great budget ultra-wide lens for full-frame, and also a very good wide-normal for DX. Have used it extensively on both.

  • id love to swap my x10 for an x100 one day, maybe when i have a decent job

for now the x100 is great though

  • I'd like to swap my X100 for X10 but not permanently ..

  • how long for amey?

Good luck. Viewfinders are generally being phased out in favour of live view. The more compact a camera gets, the less space there is for a viable viewfinder. Sure, some will have it, but it will be no more than a gimmick.
The X100 was great, but frankly, despite all the glory showered upon it, I found the viewfinder to be far too cluttered and too much of a distraction, taking people away from taking a picture and into technological wankery.

Pick what you need. What do you really need out of a camera? There is no such thing as a do it all machine, or we'd all be using it.

  • I just got a quote back from Fuji for £94 to fix the aperture blades issue.

The eBay seller put £100 across and told me to get a couple of pints for the trouble experienced, something which has instilled once more my trust in eBay and Mankind in general.

They quote a 10-15 day turnaround, but I fly out to Berlin on the 17th and bought the camera specifically for trips like this (the SLR + lenses doesn't compute with traveling IMO) so I paid £10 for a fast track service, which they've now just quoted me 2-3 working days turnaround....wonder if the 10-15 day quote was just to get me to pay for fast track.....

I thought your criticism of the viewfinder was odd as I have exactly the opposite reaction, I've not heard other complain about the viewfinder.

It's a valid criticism. I did say I personally find it so. I need the camera to take the picture as I want it to, hence why I sold the X100 because it was distracting me from doing that. Throwing the histogram and frame correction into the mix isn't my idea of what taking pictures is about.

Too many boxes, too many numbers.
Then again, I'm still using a 9 year old camera, so my opinion is archaic.

  • Forgive me if I misunderstood you, but you realised you can turn it off right? or customised it?

  • Forgive me if I misunderstood you, but you realised you can turn it off right? or customised it?

Yeah absolutely, but then I realised for all the money I spent, it was simply a techno showcase and without the wizardry, it was nothing more than an ordinary camera, and for what I did (fast af) it was in some cases, inferior.

I bloody loved its colour reproduction though. Anyway, what i'm trying to get at, some advances in tech aren't always beneficial or detrimental to making the camera a good photo taking tool. People should buy what they need, not what they want, and my criticism, I hope, is positive.

Could be interested in this 17-35... Hunmm... Will consult my bank accounts later today.

I am with you on this, everyone keeps saying how amazing the X100 is and I agree it takes stunning pics, but by the time I got all the setting right, I might as well have set up my big Nikon... Seriously considering selling it and get a cheap ish compact to kick about with...

A technician at my old uni used to tell me all the time - "Your cup of tea could be someone else's bag of shit." Or something like that...

Sorry, now sold to Will Melling. Have updated listing and reduced price on a couple of items.

  • Just picked up the GM1. Ridiculously small. Will be giving some more thoughts on it once i've played with it a bit.

    Compared to my GF1:

  • Is it worth getting a compact that can shoot RAW (given I have Lightroom at home for my DSLR) or does it not make much difference with the smaller models? If so, any suggestions on a cheap compact that can shoot RAW, looking at the Fuji XF1 but wondering about alternatives.

  • I'd like to swap my X100 for X10 but not permanently ..

    how long for amey?

tbh i'd like to just sell it and get the panasonic GM1 .. anyone keen on X100? comes with lot of extra shit

  • If I had the money yeah!

  • before I jump on it; is there ANY compact (not as tiny as GM1 but not as big as X pro 1) camera with interchangeable lenses and optical viewfinder?

The biggest reason I am reluctant to let X100 go is the awesome optical viewfinder ..

And the reason I want to is I've felt lack of telescopic capability; all I need is optical viewfinder (fine if its not WYSIWYG like X100) 2 prime lenses; 28mm and 90mm and compact-ish.
