  • ^^ Those are ha-has up there though, right?
Looks like it slopes down in front.

  • Anyone owned a Fuji XF1? Thoughts?

Curry's are selling them for £130.

I have one. For the size and the cost, it's great. Truly pocketable (unlike the X100) and punches well above it's weight. The lens isn't constant aperture so don't expect to be taking nice zoomed in low dof shots etc but it is good.

  • D700 with 125,000 clicks for maybe £600. Would anyone splash the cash for that?

  • spot the goat... :)

  • Close to the tree on the rock?

  • I see two mice in the left corner.

  • Nice, will turn to a link soon though if you don't embed a smaller image (I think 1024px max width in here).

Cheers. Not worried about the zoom as I shoot 95% at 28-35mm at about f4. Still using a 10 year old Leica D-Lux2, so it's about time I got something a bit more contemporary.

  • Have been doing some reading and learning more about functions / features of the 1000d and made some basic setting changes - wanted to sense check here to see what folks think:

Set to Adobe RGB rather than sRGB (can later save to sRGB on laptop but not other way round?)

Switched on High ISO noise reduction (is it worth switching off on bright days, as it operates at all ISO despite the functions name)

Disabled Auto Lighting Optimizer (preferring to get the camera taking pictures as I see them, rather than what it thinks I want to see)

Using Custom White Balance before shooting indoors (set via shooting white A4 in the).

    Any thoughts/owt I've overlooked?

  • If you're shooting RAW, all the things like high iso noise reduction and auto lighting optimiser don't apply, they're just for JPEG.
If you're shooting JPEG then you've picked good settings although I wouldn't bother messing with the rgb colour space. Also, if you shoot in bright daylight or any high contrast environment, then the highlight tone priority setting is quite handy, for JPEG at least.

  • I shoot sRGB as this is what is being displayed around the net, and this is also what the guys who print my files want.

I think high ISO (like, above 400) on a 1000D looks pretty much shit no matter what.

I enable Lighting Optimizer and find it does better things a bit. Far less effective compared to Nikon D300 for example though.
I does not record "what it thinks you want to see", it just combats blown-out highlights to a degree. Which is a good thing.

I have WB on auto on the 1000D, if it's anything difficult I always use the raw later.

  • Some shots I took on my iPhone (5s)

  • Thanks both for the info and corrections to understanding, am shooting jpeg indoor poor/artificial light mostly at the moment with little time for post processing.

    Buy a more expensive camera!

    Just kidding.
I'd try to keep the ISO below 800; use fast lenses / tripod if possible,
and make an effort to set your JPG settings (sharpness, contrast etc.) to your liking.
Raw gives you a bit more options, but if you ain't got time for that this is pretty much all you can do.

  • Still buying lottery tickets. Cheers for the extra tips, I have tweaked a bit with the sharpness etc too.
