Hi, I'm new here.
My last camera was an Olympus C-350, I got it for my 14th birthday.
http://www.olympus.co.uk/consumer/208_C-350_ZOOM.htmI really like photography, but it's been a while.
I just bought Hobo's spare Lumix GF-1 and was hoping somebody could tell me what differences I might expect to find between a Lumix G 14mm f2.5 lens and the more expensive 20mm f1.7 lens. Also, if anyone had any idea where I could buy one of the two, or another compatible lens super cheap I'd be really grateful.

one is wide angle, one is more normal. I've got both, the 14mm is good for more landscapy stuff, the 20 is better for general stuff, street, indoor etc. It's better in low light since it's f1.7 rather than f2.5.
The 20mm is generally considered a great lens so I would get that, it'll give you a fantastic setup. The 14mm is cheap, I got mine for £100 or so on ebay but I'd get the 20 first, it's a joy to use

this is quite wordy but seems to be a good explanation of lenses, haven't read it though, just skimmed it

this though, explains normal vs wide angle well

Cheers Kalle.
So it sounds like the 20mm is the one I need, and the 14mm is the one I can afford. There don't seem to be any auctions for the 20mm, is there anywhere else to look other than Ebay?

I got mine on the bay, dunno where to look else. Photography forums?
There's a few auctions going though: http://www.ebay.co.uk/dsc/i.html?_nkw=panasonic+20mm&_sacat=3323&_dmpt=UK_Lenses_Filters_Lenses&_odkw=panasonic+20mm&_osacat=3323&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313&LH_TitleDesc=1

for reference i payed £235 for mine, which i think is an ok price. Not a bargain, but not too much either.
Don't get me wrong though, the 14mm is a good lens. if that's what you can get now, i would. But the 20mm is a lovely lens so def worth getting
For reference, this is shot with the 14mm

Well good, lots of wabi sabi going on there.
Showing my "greenness" here, hadn't come across the term wabi sabi before. I've been trying to find out some more about it, interesting. Based on my limited knowledge, I would say that quality is what I try to capture in most my photos.
In the interest of education, can you (or anyone else) direct me to some more reading on the subject? Preferably internet based, but if there's a good book I'm owed a birthday present....
Oh and the sculpture, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joan_Mir%C3%B3
Some interesting work, pretty mind bending... Another one here.

Being the skimming type (ahead of the curve for my demographic it seems) I haven't seriously investigated Wabi Sabi very much other than first coming across something approaching the idea of it while reading "The Most Beautiful House In The World" by Witold Rybczynski (highly recommended). After that I found a name for this appreciation for objects that show signs of careful and careless usage while perusing some of Grant Petersen's ramblings in the Rivendell Reader. Quite useless according to some of the sages on this forum, but sometimes opinion is a lot more fun than tru fax.

D200 for sale £270
Cheap for quick sale, need some dental work doing asap (knocked out a tooth after a recent accident). Missing eyepiece, comes with charger and three batteries.

Anybody selling a sigma 10-20mm canon fitting? Pm me if you are or know of somebody!
-
• #1838
I think my mind is pretty much made up for a canon 5d mark 2 since the long waited mark 3 is a bit of a let down and overpriced. Is around £2250 at Jacobs or Caulmet the cheapest? Or do people know anywhere else that sells for cheaper?
Might still get my mum to buy for me back home which would be around £300 cheaper but I heard canon's warranty is only regional?
-
• #1839
Is that price body only, or with a lens?
-
• #1840
With a 24mm-105mm L F4 lens, an enterance level L series lens, but still very good I think.
Body only is around £1500 I think.

So should I downgrade my 550d with 17-55 2.8 and get a Lumix GX1?

Thanks mate, I was thinking if I were to buy from Calumet, if anything is wrong with the camera, could I just pop back there and get them to deal with canon on my behalf? Coz it'd be a reason to get from them. I have a personal dislike towards them over the years from getting other stuff.

Hey, some advice please :)
I've got a 450d, and need to take some architectural photo's for a book I'm working on. As much as I'd like perspective correcting lenses, they are out of my range. I have 12-24mm, 50mm, and 55-250mm lenses, but I'm thinking I need something between 24-50mm. Will need to be reasonably high quality, but doesn't need to be too fast as I'll be shooting with a tripod.Any ideas?

The clouds outside my window have been great the last few days.
This was taken through glass of the window though. Do you reckon I would have got less noise if I'd opened it?
-
• #1846
nice colours. looks like high iso noise to me, what iso is it shot at?
-
• #1847
erm not sure. I'll try to find the exif data...
-
• #1848
it says 'ISO speed: 200'
-
• #1849
it seems a but underexposed to me. What was the shutter speed? If your ISO was 200 than I'd expect the shutter speed to be at least a few secs. The orange area seems to have better definition, I bet if you used auto focus then the camera was focusing on the orange part not the whole thing.
And yes, you'd get a better result without the window.
