  • my ex got a d7000 coming from a d50 I think, she loves it every single day.
35/1.8 is a damn fine lens, do it!

daveypants, i've NEVER come across a compact that 'does' manual focus'ing or even goes half way towards being satisfactory. Does it not have quick selectable focus zones? ( you only need about 5-9)

  • The X100 has heaps of focus points. I don't think it's all that quick a thing to do to change ur though. I just use af-c, on the centre point and second from smallest size, activated by the shutter button. Does me fine but I'm no pixel peeper.

  • I'm pretty sold on the D7000 now. Had a look at the very similar D5100 but I'm done with plastic bodies.

  • You might want to Google "D7000 sensor oil". I love my D7000 but there is a problem.

  • consensus on the forums I just glanced at is that the problem was mostly on newer model runs and that it much less common on recent production runs.

Which is a good thing because I'm still saving.

  • Yeh I've already read about that... Doesn't seem to be a pandemic though. No big deal if it does happen, just get a replacement init.

  • Thinking of selling an Olympus E-3, if weatherproofing is your thing...

PM if interested, 24k shutter actuations.

  • Got my GX1 the other day and so far, it's very good. Got the hailed 20mm f1.7 lens for it which is great. My only struggle so far is that I want to lock the AF point to the center of the frame rather than where the camera suggests. As seen in this photo, really wish I (or the camera) would've nailed the focus

  • GX1 is a good piece of kit. As far as the focusing is concerned, you should be able to touch the screen on the actual point you want to focus on. Otherwise there's an option to move around the focus center, and keep it there.

  • ^ yup, figured out the touch thing last night. Much better, but not as good as I had it on my 5D where i set focus somewhere, framed, then shot. this still seems to miss at times

  • The thing is that the 20mm is not the fastest focusing lens in the range (and pretty noisy a focusing mechanism too)... But for the money, the 20mm has got to be one of the best lenses weight for weight.

  • I took some live photos on my GF1 / 20mm f1.7 the other night. I don't really enjoy live music photography, too hit and miss for someone as amateur as me, but it kept my hands busy and away from the beers. I'm really quite happy with the results.

  • Top one's cracking good.

  • yep... proper nice!

  • oh band photos! I took some a few years ago at a Numan gig, twas good, very hot though!

Taken on an aging canon 20d with some ridiculous shutter count (150-200k+), filthy sensor, running iso1600 and worse, for some reason I thought it would be a good idea to take a 19-35mm lens? Dunno what I was thinking. Even in the photographers pit at the front, might has well have been in next county with that lens lol.

  • Anybody need a canon lens hood, one for an 18-55mm/28-90mm and the other for a 80-200/55-200? The cheaper versions.

    gratis

Are you happy with making the leap from big camera to not so big camera. Im thinking of selling my 550d purely because it's too cumbersome and getting a GX1/2/3.

  • So far, I'm very happy. I've already taken 2 good photos I wouldn't have got without it, simply cause I wouldn't have brought it out.

On the other hand, did a bit of a shoot at home last night where I think the 5D would've been slightly better. On the other hand, the shots came out well so no big deal

  • Here's one shot, GX1 with 20mm pancake. It was shot late last night and I don't have any proper lights so it's lite by a ceiling flood light, two angle poise lamps and a white sheet of paper...

Do it. I went from hauling a D3 then a 5D and a 1D around with me to the fuji X100. It's so nice being able to walk around shooting all day and not have a bad back/shoulder because of the weight. Plus I never leave the house without a camera with me nowadays whereas when I had bulky DSLR kit I had to be going out to shoot something in particular before I'd take anything with me.

  • Three very different ones for my recent snapping:

  • A couple from Bangalore:
