  • cheers man

  • You think?
I played with the curves on this one for ages and it was a close call between accurate/deep blacks or this clipped black. Went with the clipped to make it feel more atmospheric and "dusky" (if that's a word).

  • The street? The lens distortion? Or the alignment?

  • I have no clue what I'm doing when it comes to gig photography, but I had fun trying.

  • Yea one can see this was adjusted with care, I guess I'm just not digging clipped blacks.
Like, a very few times I saw images with clipped blacks and it immediatly "made sense" but most of the time it looks just like an "effect" or a "style" to me, I don't know..

  • Looks good mate! Nice shot. Who's the band?
My tip would be to watch for things like mic stands intersecting people/instruments. It can be tricky to avoid them but can make for a much cleaner shot if you watch out for them.

  • cheers.

Yeah I wasn't thinking much about mic stands until I got home last night and realised almost every photo has one blocking someone's face. Luckily I was just there taking photos for fun so it doesn't matter too much. I'll definitely be looking out for that in the future though.

The band is Muck, they were supporting Every Time I Die in Manchester.

Haha, yea I thought about this when shooting Jaga Jazzist the other day - 8 musicians with multiple instruments each cramped on a small stage, also about 50 LED-tubes that were flickering like this
    most of the time.. FML
    Was fun though!

  • ^ They're cool shots Tina!

  • Thanks - on my oly Em-5 - 35mm equiv. / 1/40s / f1.8 / iso 800

  • oh wow. They're awesome.

  • #2 is incredible!!

  • Like said above, if you gauge where the lead singer's Mike will be, stand a little to the left of it. That way you should get a clean photo every time without the mic stand or guitar neck getting in the way. However if they turn out to be left handed you're boned...

  • Was away walking in the alps for work last week - wish I'd had my bike!
