Loads of nice handbuilds to choose from....
    http://www.wheelsmith.co.uk/index.htm
    e.g.

    Nice light low-profile wheels.
    IRD cadence + CX-Ray spokes + Record hubs (3x 32/32) = £435

    Or deeper profile pimpish wheels.
IRD Aero + CX Ray spokes + Royce Ti hubs (28/24) = £568

  • Record hubs handbuilt on to open pros would be my unqualified choice.

See here J, and just leave these 2 to their cock wrestling.

Cock wrestling? Isn't that basically wanking?

What hippy and I had going on was banter. I knew he'd come out with some derogatory comment on the compact, bed wetting made me laugh. The Apple slur tempered it slightly.

  • On the forthcoming factory wheel front the 50mm Shimano RS80 clinchers look cheap; probably half the price of the Dura Ace C50 with the same rim same weight just Ultegra hubs.
Just need to get those stickers off mind.....

  • And a Campag freehub? ;-)

  • Ambrosio freak cassette ft cross-dressing win!

    edit

    or a Shiftmate thingy.

    What could possibly go wrong?

  • I have IRD Cadence Aeros... They rock.. Apparently a silver version is coming out soon :)

    Alternatively, Hed Ardennes ?

Best rim decals I've seen in ages... I am a graphic designer though, so probably best not to trust me.

  • Who is the IRD distributor here in the UK FFS??

Erm, to Jaygee, handbuilt, specc'ed to your weight and untended use, pay more for and pay more attention to who builds it, than the components, possibly , even. pay less attention to late night grammar.

    My 2p.

    DT R520 FTW.

Hmmm...It reads 'ASBO' to me. And I'm sure that's not what they're trying to say!
ASBO wheels: yeah, they're going to fuck you up.

  • ASBO wheels - you're not allowed to ride them at between 8 at night and 8 in the morning

  • ASBO wheels: Yer mam!

  • not safe for the streets.

I've only seen them on Wheelsmith. They used to sell them separate, but think its complete wheels only now.
They are rebadged KinLin rims, also sold as Halo, and Speedsific as well as others. As I understand it KinLin manufacture all niobidium rims.

    +1
I've heard good things about Wheelsmith. But the recommendation was based more on their rim and hub selection if I'm honest.

    Compact.. I win.

Did'nt find that (bloody messy site). JayGee, if you are planning on putting the bike together yourself, or at least maintain it. Bare in mind the cost of the Campag 11 speed chain tool.
    £135

Ice tools now do a budget 11 speed.
    £18

Apparently the ice tools one doesn't work but park are releasing one that does the peening and you can use any 10 speed chain tool for the rest of it.

I've got the 11 speed campag tool so if anyone wants to use it they can come round mine and use it if they want, stay in South London.

I'm getting a new groupset soon, having massive dilemas of compact over standard and chorus over record, can't make up my mind.

Also my dad just got an athena groupset from shiny bikes, everything arrived but the cranks which they said were too follow. He needed them as I was coming up to fit it all together so he called them up and they said they couldn't get them in time but he could upgrade to the carbon cranks and they gave him a tenner off, so not too bad there. Heard another story though of someone buying an Ultegra some number groupset, a different number ultegra groupset arrived so they phoned up and the guy said they were the same thing, which they weren't.

Feck, sorry for the poor info JayGee. I was tempted to pick one up myself when I saw the price. Cheers daccordi!

I need the compact for climbing. I cant decide between 11-25 and 12-27 cassettes though.

  • I've also heard that the Ice tool chain tool isn't up to the job, as it doesn't do the peening, is that really a word?, needed to complete the job.

I've a Campag 11 speed tool too, so if anyone in south London is in need of one they are now spoilt for choice. :-)

  • The hand built route sounds good. Had a chat with ft at SW beers last night. Hope Pro 3 to Open Pro sounds good. Might also look DT Swiss Rims. Record Hubs. hmmmm.

Luckily I live in South London as I have a choice of tool suppliers.

Scherrit, I may need to bend your ear.

Thank you again people. Your comments are much appreciated.

  • ^Jay maybe have a word with Sigma Sport about obviously now 'obsolete' last gen Shimano hubs; they sold me a DA FH-7800 for £90 to go with the £30 DA front I got from Cyclesurgery.

  • Are you and hippy on commission from Shimano?

  • record, cx ray, open pro, job done....

  • I got to the bottom of the Hippy Campagnolo boycott, it's all a sham and a farce and related to his local Aussie shop.

  • I need the compact for climbing. I cant decide between 11-25 and 12-27 cassettes though.

If you're going compact you need should use the 11-25.
50x11 is around the same as 53x12 gear inches and you're not going to be using 30x27 much.. unless you weigh 200kg and climb the alps or something.
