  • Ha.

  • Not before you tell me about wheels!

  • Are you going to SW drinks tonight?

  • Me? I have a baby, therefore no social life.

  • Wheels - what's your budget, what sort of riding do you intend to do?

  • Not before you tell me about wheels!

Buy my Ksyrium ES's. Special price for you.

Um, I dunno. Open Pros on 105/Ultegra hubs 32. Job done. Build. How much?

I buy all kinds of new-fangled shite now so have no idea on prices. I bought a 9spd rear wheel for £30 at the low-end. You could pay £1000 for something silly. What's it for? I've not actually been reading the thread, just baiting andy.

  • He's running Campag numb nuts. :-)

  • It is for my Mid Life Crisis bike.

    No more than 500.

    Woah! taps out

  • Ha!

  • American Classic 420s, Fulcrum 3s or Campag Neutrons would be good options. Not sure what Mavic do at that price point.

Aero beats weight in most instances so I'd go for the 420s, assuming they've sorted out the reliability problems with their hubs as they claim they have.

  • Have a look at Hope Pro 3's laced to Open Pros, great wheels I think for about £280 a pair.

  • Low budget options abound...

  • Was looking at Mavic Ksyrium Elite.

Bit worried about being blown all over the road on Aeros (bollocks).

  • Low budget options abound...

Yes Hippy. I am a lightweight.

  • Ksyrium do ok but speak to Scherrit about truing bladed aluminium spokes after a couple of years of damp UK weather..

  • Yes Hippy. I am a lightweight.

    Google "lightweight obermayer"..

  • The dog is certainly not a lightweight.

  • Factory wheels are fine but, as hippy points out, they require specialist knowledge and/or tools to service. Personally I'd get a pair of handbuilts to begin with, i.e. hubs of your choice, 32 hole 3x on Open Pros, and then upgrade later once you've got the bug.

    +1

of course you'll need to pick a campag compatible freehub

See here J, and just leave these 2 to their cock wrestling.

  • I ordered a Chorus groupset and some wheels from Shiny a couple of years ago. It was all fine, except that they used DHL as the courier, and they were cunts.

So if you do buy from them, demand a non-shite courier company.

  • Doesn't Steve (adoubletap) rate them as the worst online retailer?

    Oh yes

23/12/09 ordered Vittoria Diamante Pro Light tyres at a tidy price. Over the phone to check on stock."Yeah I have them in my hand no problem."

4/01/10 Phone up to check what's happened to my tyres and why card not been charged. "Oh sorry bit of an oversight, your order wasn't released for shipping I'll do that now"

06/01/10 a pair of Vittoria Diamante Pro tyres listed completely separately under a separate product code at a different price are delivered.

07/01/10 calls to sort out are deflected until the guy dealing with my order is back in the office.

08/01/10 speak to fucker who tells me to return the tyres I don't want and when they arrive they will send correct ones to avoid possible mail fraud. I go ape and they promise to get my tyres in post next day.

09/01/10 I post my tyres back

11/01/10 they are confirmed delivered back to Shiny bikes

13/01/10 Today. I call to enquire where the fuck the tyres I orders 3 weeks ago are. "Oh sorry, we didn't ever actually have them in stock and had to order the from the distributor. You were the first person to order the lights in 3 years so we thought you wanted the version we had in stock laughter we'll send them to you as soon as they arrive."

Incompetent lying and downright deceitful muppets.

  • I got a 2009 Veloce groupset from them for £270 - all silver it is - it arrived safe and sound too
