There's also the Cheam & Morden Hilly 50 on Saturday, mentioned a few times before. Sort of a Surrey Hills TNRC but in the oposite direction. I'm 70/30 about going, someone's leaving work on Friday and there's going to be a massive piss up.

I don't actually know what anyone looks like. I perceive everyone as featureless mannequins with their usernames on Post-It notes stuck to their foreheads.
In other news, if anyone happened to be riding their bikes later, now would be a good time to waggle their smallest allen key in all those cuts on their tyres, and see if there's anything crunchy in there which needs to be removed…

Hrmmm, I could be up for this. Would it be fairly comparable to the 5-hills in difficulty?

Nothing's that tough ; )And, according to BMMF, Surrey isn't tougher than any other route.
I'm beginning to think I understand it all now. Everything.

Good advice! The Bonn night riders have dedicated an essay to that topic where the part on how to sweep the dirt of the tyres while moving at 20mph during winter rides is sadly missing.

And a second essay on changing an inner tube where it clearly says: 8 min or else!

Yeah, pretty much. Although you would go up the two steepest downhill sections of the Surrey Hills route (IMHO), which are Whitedown (the steep hill with the hairpin near the beginning), and Boar Hill which is the fast descent just before Dorking.

The bits of TNRC route that stick in my mind as being most difficult at the moment are:
i) Potters Bar - because I've just raced around there on an 88" gear.
ii) Roydon - because at the start of the autumn last year, I desperately clung to the wheels of some 2nd cats in peak form with multi-day stage racing in their legs.
So that's official. Potters Bar and Roydon are the most difficult routes. Or something.

Pitch Hill is difficult when you have 5 minutes to ponder the hardships it's caused before any other fucker rolls up. Same goes for Ide Hill (north side).

The Ingatestone one is difficult due to the fact no-one actually knows the route. -

I might be up for this. Depending on the extent of the hangover.

I find the dash down the back stretch of the WGC route difficult. Add to that the fact that you have to go down that hill just to ride back up it to the station and it makes for a very drawn out finish.
I might be doing the Rumble. Illegally.
