Why loop round Box Hill? It's not even a fucking hill. Why not UP Whitedown, DOWN Ranmore. Much more like it.
It's the Olympics, Sam!

Start with the basics. I dread to think how many times you could crash in the space of 40 miles.

Hey, those are dicki's rules, not the TNRC's.

THISI agree Sam. I saw this and thought "9 times up and down Box Hill? Is it just because of the switchbacks. Somebody should send them "the widow maker" and tell them to Ride Hard.

It's pretty spectator friendly, plus parking/refreshments, as well as being a vaguely iconic climb in the SE (even though it's shit).
-

The organisers don't want the race to be too hard, otherwise Cavendish*'s chances of winning are diminished.
*Cavendish rode Whitedown once, cried at the top after walking the last third and swore to never ride The Widowmaker again. True story.

He's not going to win though is he?

Cavendish has taken the devil's coin before.
A general guideline would be that these are 'intermediate' rides.
If you've never done 30 miles along country lanes in the daytime, or ridden in a group, these night rides are not the place to start.
