Looking forward to the 2011 season now.
Took the Colnago out for the first time in 3 1/2 months tonight, did 2 ascents of Exedown (same route as 3 weeks ago on the Olmo). 5 minutes quicker overall, I forgot how light it was compared to the Olmo. Timed myself on the second ascent, from when the tarmac changes 50 yards before the hairpin to the end of the pull in bit where we stop at the top took just under 4 minutes. Personally I didn't think that was too bad!

Oh yeah, nasty 3 car accident at the junction with Pilgrims Way out there tonight. People come down that hill far too fast, and people pull out of Pilgrims Way without really looking as it's such a quiet road. Generally.

I also had a little wednesday night ride in Kent last night. Sevenoaks-Yorks Hill-Toys Hill-Pilgrims Way- Hogstrough Hill - Jackass lane etc. back to London. It was awesome.
Which junction on Pilgrims Way was the pile up?

With the junction of Exedown Road, it's where we turn left to head back towards Otford on the Kent 2 route (Star Hill, Ide Hill etc).

Ah, Pilgrims Way West, didn't realise that existed.
Assume it was all connected once and has since been cut up by the motorway.

It's split up in all sorts of places now. But most of the parts that aren't roads are signed footpaths.

is it a case of these rides increasing in difficulty as the summer passes?
i am interested in coming along.

Rides range from pancake flat to "honest" so it's a nice mix. You'll know what you're signing up for before you get there, don't worry! :)

i am not that fast.Yes, in that most people are going better towards the end of the summer.
It tends to be a clubrun/touring paced procession for the first hour, just to ease everyone in and keep the group cohesive.
On hilly routes, we always stop and regroup at the top. On flatter/draggier rides, that's when the splits are most likely to occur; but again, there will be regrouping points at ambiguous junctions. Plus we have a ride leader and a backstop, not to mention a core membership who are pretty familiar with the routes, and keep an eye out for anyone who begins to show signs of struggling.
There's often a stretch of 10 miles or so, towards the end, when fast people put the hammer down. I'd never do such a thing.
