  • Regarding the first of the new 2011 TNRC routes, I'll need my research findings peer-reviewed by STE5, but initial sensations were beautiful (EuroProSpeak).

I concur: Deceptively difficult. Beautiful lanes. Happy joggers. Few cars. Smooth tarmac.

  • Any frightening downhill sections?

  • Some fast downhill sections. Mostly un-frightening.

  • I'm making a play for the most improved cyclist. tactics? start as shit as possible. so no riding for me apart from the commute until March. might put some shifts in the saddle in the mid of feb when i have a holiday. I'm worried about the trains bmmf. TNRC elders might have to have a meeting in a pub soon to discuss the year ahead.

  • I like the pub idea.

Do you mean trains in general, or specific to this route? I'm sure it'll be fine. Participants, if lacking in common sense, just need to be told to spread out, maximum of 2 per doorway (including non-TNRC cyclists). Fill up from the front (i.e. far end of platform). Staff are more likely to get all herniated if they see loads of us filling up immediately past the ticket barrier. I know you know this, BTW.

I foresee stringent ride capping, with last minute secondary rides being organised for those who missed out. It's not like we're lacking in routes.

Anyway, I'll save any more of that for the pub… [/fun times]

  • Any frightening downhill sections?

I lost my back wheel on a descent today, momentarily, braking to stay behind Sean (him fixed, me geared (but only 39/15-16). Shit my new fleecey bibs. That's quite messy.

  • ok. is this week sometime too short notice? doesn't need to turn into a piss up.

  • ^^^ Can we fix it yes we can?

  • Draggy long hills, yep that's the chiltern shape alright. OK i've got a 66.6r% chance of being wrong here: I'll guess King's Langley.

I'm willing to guess that I'm further down that road with that plan than you Mr Smoker. Precious little riding in October and November none in December and half way through January and I'm still wearing my Christmas plump.
I've also got the weight of doing LE to JoG in July to get in shape for. Come February/March I'm going to have to have some miracle race fitness plan or the cave will be from Cornwal to Scotland.

  • I. Smooth tarmac.

lets hope it stays that way in the summer.

  • ^Should do. There's precious little motorised traffic using those roads, apparently.

    @Skully - I'm no monarchist, sorry.

    "Tring you say."

    Mornington Crescent?

  • I knew it would end up like Radio 4 on here eventually.

  • We should beat him to death with ZX80s, just to show him their awesome power.

But then you'd never get your batteries back ?
    ; )

  • They'd be peeking and pokeing us to death.

  • Someone selling some lumens in case people are on the lookout.

nice tip off. my lumens are increasing. are lumens cumulative? i.e. 200 + 200 = 400

    According to ^ that:
Lumens (a luminous flux measurement) measure the varying sensitivity of the eye to diff wavelengths of light i.e total amount of viisble light from a source.

It's radiant flux (watts) that tell you how powerful the light is.

Lux is probably the better measure as it takes into account the area that the lumens are spread over. You can have 1000 lumens spread over either 1 or 10 square metres, which is 1000 lux and 100 lux respectively. 1000 lux would be brighter than 100 lux.

    sorry.

  • Lumens are cumulative, but its better to concentrate the area they're going over (narrow beam).

    I think.

  • oh ok so if i shine my two lights in one place i get 400lux from my two 200 lumens but if in two different place then i get 200 lux/lumens in two places?

  • are tnrc going to recommend a suitable amount of lumens or lux needed for 2011?

  • I think so. I'm a biologist, so it could be wrong.

  • You want to concentrate it and hope that both light sources are kicking out light in the same wavelengths and phase, I'm guessing. Otherwise you'll have negative effects.

I'd ask this in "any questions".
