I'm currently in the midst of enquiries with London Midland about their 2-bike-per-train/discretionary regulations.
Depending on the outcome, I've got a new route taking shape, and will be doing a reccy at some point soon. In the daytime first though. Trains fares are on the up, but this one should come in at about £6 for a GS4, and under a tenner for a GS3.

loking forward to it :)

@ jonsmoker - do we need a new thread for the 2011 TNRC, for pre-season shit-talking at least?
-

Recce me in, bitches. Otherwise I'm going to wear out tyres, mind and body engaging in countless, monotonous, outer circle antics.

Hi Sophie,
I wasn't on that ride, but once you've completed one, you're a member of the 'club' already.
I can vouch for that. I turned up to my one and only ride 25 years ago. It started raining so we rode 200 yards to the nearest boozer, spent the evening in there and caught the last train home and I'm still getting TNRC junk mail to this day.

I don't mind the junkmail, but the postman resents the fact it has to be delivered at night.
He's got well good lights though.

Hello,
I'm writing to enquire about the typical levels of discretion regarding allowing more than 2 bikes on a train during evening/off peak hours.
I co-organise an informal fortnightly night ride, mostly occurring between March & October. We regularly use trains leaving Kings Cross, Liverpool St, Waterloo, and Victoria, usually on the first train after 7.30pm. Typically if there's no more than 15 of us signed up, we all board the same train, and try to ensure that there are no more than 2 of us in any doorway (once purpose-built bike spaces are filled up). If there are 15-25 signed up, we divide the group onto 2 trains.
For the return journey, usually between 10pm and midnight, we've always boarded one train, and never had any negative impact on other passengers.
I'm planning a new route from mystery destination, and we'd probably only do it 2 or 3 times between the months mentioned above.
Do you think we'd be likely to be refused entry to the train at Euston in groups of this size, and if so, is discretion more likely to be granted after 8pm? Or is there a system where you prefer to be notified in advance in order to grant permission?
Many thanks for your attention,
Scarlett Parker
**Dear Mr Parker,
Thank you for your e-mail.
As you aware, we allow 2 bikes per train, but more may be allowed on at the conductor's discretion. This will depend on how busy the train is as the rules are in place for Heatlh & Safety reasons.
We would not expect trains outside the peak period from London Euston to
mystery destination to be as busy, so a number of bikes may be let on the same train after 1900. Please speak to the conductor before boarding the train. The measures you already have in place to minimise disruption to other passengers should assure the conductor that you are aware of the Health & Safety issues.I hope this information proves useful and you enjoy your trip to* *mystery destination**.
Yours sincerely,
Customer Relations Advisor**

Dear TNRC
Your latest future member, Editha Rose, was born on Thursday 6th Jan at 10:01am. Weighing in at a good grimpeur (unlike her dad) weight of 5lb 15oz.
Mother and Edie doing fine and settling in at home now, after a few days recovery in hospital.

Bmmf - I'm still not thinking about this shit yet until another few weeks. glad you are though. de rosa is in pieces about to be resprayed for the new season. this thread doesn't seem to want to die so leave all chatter on here until I break out of my cocoon like a brand new butterfly. hope everyone is enjoying the new year :D
Hi Sophie,
I wasn't on that ride, but once you've completed one, you're a member of the 'club' already. If you found the pace okay, and have a decent front light (to see with, rather than just be seen with), we'll see you on the nocturnal variety come the spring.
