  • i want to do the widowmaker Surrey ride on Tuesday, or i might sulk :(

    me too!

  • in that case...I'll have a tuesday night off.

  • I am beyond sulking. No Chalkpit Lane and Whitedown then for me in the next weeks. :-( I can only hope that the 60cm I will be able to use will fit and I will be able to tackle the Eifel, which is volcanic and up to 2400 feet high! :-(

list then trains. Just annotate if train or ride out. 3 climbs. 2 respectable honest ones and 1 disrespectful dishonest son of a bitch 18% 800m climb. If you don't think you can make it round in time for the last train 2 and three quarter hours approx, then don't put your name down. If you get lost and you don't have a map and we don't find you because there is patchy phone reception at best, then enjoy the scenery.

  • but if you prefer Tanhurst I can say the way when we will be there...

That's how we did it on the season's opener. I recall Abinger road being a long drag up to the climb, Tanhurst looks flatter for the run up but jacks up a bit giving a longer proper climb.

This is purely based on looking at the map so would anyone who's ridden say if that's a fair assessment.

You purely wrong. Tanhurst it's stepper and very nasty...

  • Tim, Tanhurst can be interesting if you want to get rid of one of your riders... with the help of one or two of the elders you can first smash his motherfucking head with a stone or better a rock that will be not too difficult to find there in the middle of the way, then you will just discard the body on the side of the road... it will take indeterminate ages before someone will find the already decomposed remains.

This is a wonderful route, might even be my favorite. I secretly enjoyed the ride home last time, but I'd be happy if I never had to do that again.

  • sorry. internet connection is so patchy here that i can't see the map. could be wrong. WTF it is TNRC so yep it probably has no real resemblance to the actual ride. Are we just trying to keep the garmin guys on their toes?

Did you ride home from this one, Sean (not confusing it with Kent#2)?

  • PS. Will try to remember to bringyouyourmitts - I suppose you could just pick up my groupsave ticket, unless you prefer to do folding (not Brompton).

  • As much as I try I can't seperate the memory of the two rides in my mind. They have merged into one.

Which one was wet and gravelly?

The mitts, yes that'd be great. But if it's dry I probably won't turn up. I'm considering ways of intercepting the TNRC peleton mid ride, could be tricky/impossible.

  • BMMF, what happened to the train times? Where are you leaving from and what time? Or do you just meet at Effingham junc. at a certain time? I feel like I should renew the tnrc membership..

  • @STE5 - I can't remember. But it was Kent that 6 of us had to ride home from.

@hippy - clintsmoker's doing the forum logistics for this one, and he likes to keep people guessing… probably the 19h09 and 19h33. (just put your name on the list anyway)

Not sure I can face another 70" grind up the 18% Whitedown :/

  • If I do make it out I'll be geared. Condor is 'resting' for a while.
