Coincidence Alert
claus discovered that he'd snapped a spoke last night, after rattling his way towards Whitedown.
On the previous TNRC, I'd heard a loud metal snapping type noise, thought I'd ridden over something, hadn't, filed the noise away in the 'unexplained' drawer; span back wheel this morning to see the kind of wobble only ever explained by a snapped spoke.
Luckily I've got a few spares knocking around (CX Ray, init), but it's a first for me. Goes to show just how fucking hardcore we do our bike-based rolling on Tuesday nights. Well, me and claus at least.
If it happens another time, I'll try not to ride away from you all so easily on Ranmore, and one of you fucks can point out my wobbly rear wheel, thanks very much for nothing please.
Next fortnight's list will be going up soon(ish)…
That's how it goes: while rolling beyond you on Ranmore I noticed a slight wobble in your backwheel. Must be me fainting I thought, that man can not have an untrue wheel.

My wheels are normally like Elvis's aim, or what Tony Hadley knows to be. Give me a shout next time, Ludwig :)
-
• #2481
i noticed something as well. but thought it was the stripe on those hipster tyres of yours.
-
• #2482
Vredestein stripes normally have a bit of a wibble, rather than a wobble, which is all part of their handmade charm and superiority to other tyres in the same price bracket.

I don't get this, was there an early Spandau Ballet song about a fridge?

Rude.
Claus and I stopped at the top of Ranmore to make you feel better about yourself. Yes, your wheel was wobbly plus I could also see your asshole winking at me.

Do you ride fortezzas, Mr Fix?
-
• #2486
Yeah, I love the tricomps. But tyre choice is an esoteric thing, so whatever.

Very solid ride
Sam, good to see you back on TRNC and thanks for the 20 extra psi. They certainly kept a puncture away when I went through that pot hole but passed it on to the spoke quick snap.
BMMF, I noticed the backwheel wobble just before I got mine at the front. When you offered to straighten it out I was like: Well, if you can ride with that wobble I should be fine with this one. We might have sorted it out with some centrifugal wheel truing magic spinning at 140+ rpm into Gomshall.
Max, Sam/Sam, Furious Tim, DJ ... really enjoyed those climbs and pseudo taktical moves.
Thanks to the nutters setting the advert on fire and making the train wait. Realized I dodged the return fare. Mybe I can donate to the TRNC price fund or Badger Trust

Damo, that sheldonded finger looked really nasty. What did you take? didn't seem to hurt much. Hope it grows back.

just a bit of nail it seems.

So everyone fucking notices my fucked rear wheel, but says nothing. Almost as if you were willing me or it to catastrophically fail in some way.
I remember when people used to give a shit on these rides. Back when the forum was on Vanilla, the membership was less then a thousand, fixed bikes hadn't become a tasteless fashion accessory, there were only 3 TV channels, the neo-Conservative elite hadn't ripped the heart and soul out of this country, people played real instruments, no-one knew where Old St was, blah blah blah...

What's BRM gotta do with anything?

Really enjoyed those little attacks on Ranmore. If that hill was 200yds longer I would have gone kapot!

I was practicing my descending...

^ could do with some descending class too. should probably start with a different cockpit set up. feel like the centre of gravity is hovering above the handlebar which is uncomfortable at times. maybe, but only maybe I might consider a proper road brake leavers.

Last night made me realise how much I have just been poorling in my comfort zone of late. The hills were great fun. Was chatting with jeebus about how differently people climb, I prefer to remain seated but it feels harder to attack from the saddle.
Had completely forgotten how far ranmore goes on for and spent the last half with heart rate pushed to 180 worrying how long I could sustain it for. Thanks to the others who kept feeling strained last night.
Looking forwards to the next one.

• #2496
I suppose you meant 'pootling', but I quite like 'poorling'.
claus - stop pissing about, and get some hoods sorted on your bars. Descending with any gusto on the tops is fucking shit. Or fit a cross-top lever on your Colnago, FFS.

Cheap train fare promo start this Saturday for a month.
If you have an Oyster card (£3) you can print a voucher and get off peak day returns to WGC for £5
Loads of other destinations too.

i agree with jonny. sounds shit.
Sarcasm aside, WGC's most famous son is undoubtedly Nick Faldo.
I'm looking forward to the TNRC in two weeks. I am probably going to be bringing a colleague on his new gears to join the fray. Hello Gareth if you're reading this.
The new Classico is absolutely lovely. I'll bring it out to Welwyn. mmmmmm.
BTW, last night sounds lovely, I wish I'd been there. As does Jonny, I imagine, given the disgrace that was football last night.
