• I've just received this--note appeal for witnesses. Very sad.

From the Camden Cyclists’ e-group, a message from Cllr Paul Braithwaite (LB Camden's Cycling Champion). Lidlington Place is the 2-3 lane one-way street on the southern side of Mornington Crescent gyratory.

    Bad news:
A collision occurred in Lidligton Place NW1 (just south of Mornington Crescent) on the 21st February where a pedal cycle collided with a pedestrian. The pedestrian has subsequently died 8 days later.

Here's a paraphrase of the press release:

We are appealing for witnesses and information following a fatal collision between a pedal cycle and a pedestrian which happened at 10.10am on the 21st February 2010 in Lidlington Place, NW1, junction of Eversholt Street.

A 56 year-old lady was crossing the road with her daughter when she was hit by a pedal cycle. She was taken by ambulance to the University College Hospital, however she died on 1st March at Queens Square Hospital.

The victim, Marian Anderson, and her family are from Denmark and were in the UK visiting.

  • very sad, hope that witnesses do come forward

  • Very sad, my feelings go to this danish family.
    RIP

  • Wow, cant believe this was the result of a cyclist impact.
Ive passed the fatality sign on the road for the past week or so and had no clue.

    RIP

  • Sad indeed.

  • heartfelt sympathy to the family.

  • Awful. RIP.

  • This is sad. I've only just seen this. Utmost sympathy to the family.

  • Sorry if this is a repost, but the cyclist has now been charged by the police:

  • Argh, we're reading the news at the same time.

  • Spooky!

  • Cripe, there's no excuse for that to happen, RIP to the poor lady.

  • Notice how if a cyclist knocks someone down and kills them it's manslaughter?
And if a motorist does it, even deliberately, it's a traffic offence. Or maybe nothing at all.

Mr BQ, I was wondering what happened for the manslaughter charge, but I'm not sure this thread is the best place to disuss it.

    RIP pedestrian.

This is terrible. Any bets he was brakless??

  • I'd love to know why he was charged with manslaughter.

    Edit misunderstood arrested for charged

  • Oh just small point, but important.. currently he has been arrested... not charged. So investigation etc. will be ongoing.

  • Dunno.

I don't understand why you'd want to cycle without at least one calliper brake, even if on fixed.

  • uh oh....

  • neil

that kind of crazy/sensible talk will get you attacked round here

    though you are right

  • Sorry wonder why the cyclists was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter

  • He killed somebody, for a start. If he could be shown to be cycling recklessly, that would go some way towards manslaughter.
