  • always buy long valved presta 26/ 700c tubes, then you can
    a) help your hipster mates with their deep v-s when they flat
    b) always be compatible with every mtb wheel

are we getting £5 per tip here or what M?

  • Lock on grips.

I didn't even know these existed until a week ago when I got mine, awesome.

  • For putting grips on I either use nothing, or hairspray.*

If I have time to wait, I'll use hot water (softens the rubber).

    Avoid soap.

*Use a minimal amount, too much and you'll be waiting for it to evaporate/dry.

  • If you're using a quill-to-ahead converter which leaves a big hole in the top o' your steerer tube (some have a pretty far down bolt*), any bar end plug fits nicely. I used a bolt-in quill one for that 'finished' look.

*Will require a longish allen key with plenty of leverage.

  • A paper takeaway cup of tea fits really well in a bottlecage. Good for working on the road when it gets cold.

If you are struggling to find something to give you leverage on a short allen key (in any instance) use a handlebar. For reference, a Nitto B123AA track bar allowed me to tighten up my quill-to-ahead converter as I was using the long end of my Park Tool allen key to do up the bolt.

  • Carry a spoke key and grease. Sounds kinky but both have come in very handy in seperate situations, and I don't know of many people carrying spoke keys let alone grease.

    Any particular type of grease?

  • Recently I decided to reduce my mileage to almost zero. I've seen a significant increase in the life of my parts.

  • ^Saucy.

  • I have a tube of Finish Line teflon grease I've had for about 2 years. When I'm working on my own bike I use it for everything except my chain.

One of these days you'll even take it out for a ride..

I've used coke, sorry, Coke for putting grips on. I can't comment on whether or not it's better or worse than WD40 as I've never used that.

You can create a bookmark to gmail.com/tasks in your browser and then create a shortcut to that bookmark on your homescreen on an Android phone. Until google come up with a proper Tasks app, this is my preferred option.

LSD keeps better in a freezer.

You can put up to £5100 cash in a tax-free ISA account. Another £5100 can be put into a stocks and shares ISA.

Dual computer screens make everything better.

You can open beer bottles using a ciggie lighter as a lever against your thumb.

If you do this you'll need tip #2 - don't leave your bike outside in the rain/snow/pond

  • In my experience, any liquid works well to put grips on, but the best is wd40. Always have it laying about near the tools, evaporates/dries quickly once the grips on.

I do not believe this. WD40 lingers and stays greasy for at least a little while, dont forget some people actually (mis)use it as a lube.

Hairspray FTW. Not only does it make grips glide on, it dries like glue. Locking your grips in place.

  • I just used hot water to make the rubber more stretchy. Worked fine for me but I put them on a set of bars that weren't actually fitted yet so didn't have to contend so much with waiting for them to dry.

  • Get a black Brooks and paint the rivets black with black nail polish, or better yet super glue small circles of thin black leather on them. Cover the Brooks plate at the back with a cheap saddle make decal.

Of course this will not fool thieves, but you'll be a hipster god for being so no lo go.

Thats a scientific rationale at work there. Maybe have a go?

It works a treat. DMR ziplock grips, no zip locks though, i use WD40 to get them off bars then WD40 to pop em back on different bars. sticky as anything in under 2 mins. Have a go.

I can't beleive this many people still have hairspray, but then i'm a man with very short hair.

  • santander is currently the best instant access isa.

  • you don't need to salt aubergines anymore. the bitterness has been bred out of them.

it's possible to do some restriction digests in the microwave and not a 37 degree water bath. saving you over an hour.

don't skip on sonicating gold beads and DNA.

  • you don't need to salt eggplants anymore. the bitterness has been bred out of them.

Wait till Balki hears of this.

  • never trust any woman that won't eat an entire bar of chocolate on her own.

  • When making beetroot smoothies, always put the lid on the blender.

Magnetic screwdrivers are a must for those teeny tiny screws in shift lever covers.

+100 to Nhatt's note on WIPING the freaking excess oil off the outside of your chain.

Nah, I leave that for my LBS. I love the look on his face when the grit makes up more material than the chain.

    Beetroot smoothie? WTF

  • beetroot has a laxative effect, from personal experience of a beetroot curry.
