In my experience, any liquid works well to put grips on, but the best is wd40. Always have it laying about near the tools, evaporates/dries quickly once the grips on.
Sorry, don't use a lubricant, you'll have to wait for it to dry. Disc brake cleaner or any other pure alcohol spray ftw
