Guys, these things don't have to "work" they are just there because TFL needed to be shown to be doing "something".
Nobody can complain now about the lack of safety for cyclists in london because Boris will just say "We've spent £N million on making roads safer for cyclists- look at out cycle super highways".
It's all about blowing budget, Ken's cavalcade of buses didn't "improve public transport" but they will go down in history as a use of funding.

Cycle Super Shitheap.
I'll use my own cycle lanes thanks all the same.. they're called roads.

The whole thing puts me off cycling on the road. I now ride mainly on the track , turbo or rollers.

To be fair none of these routes are officially "open" yet anyway, no road signs or anything have gone up yet.....
-
• #185
A few more signs in London will make these more effective? I don't think so.

It's a cyclepath.
so what? -
• #187
I rode on one today, well I say "on" it more like on the same bit of road but I was going along the outside of gridlocked traffic between balham and tootn'.
So they blue area is for cars to park and we get the rest of the road? seems to work fine.

Everytime I cycle home at 2am, there's more and more smurf being bled on the tarmac.
they're doing it rather sporadically than a simple start to finish method.
RPM, I was thinking the same.

£1200 fine every time you drive in it might make them work.. otherwise.. meh*10000

More blue added between Tooting Bec and Balham. I am not sure what is the plan but instead of having a continuous straight line they went in parking spaces?? ie they painted blue where you see the cars parked and then out again on the road.
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&tab=wlAnyway not long before they open it and I haven't sorted my smurf outfit yet.

also can i just point out the irony of making roads into london super narrow while the paint shit blue?
clapham common north side to clapham north has gone from being a pleasure to ride to being a fncking deathtrap.
they've blocked of lanes for weeks and no progress is being made at all.
-

I don't think the Clapham High Street road works have anything to do with the super highways. They paint the highways at night.

Are any of the cycle campaign jobbys doing anything about this ludicrous waste of money?
We need to jump on this right quick before they carry on spending millions on blue paint FFS, London is a laughing stock.

They are not listening. You see the TfL reply "it is far more than just painting the road blue" and that it is a good colour.

It's all about blowing budget.
sad but true. I did some work experience at a local authority, and when i found this out I thought it was the dumbest thing ever. The guy told me 'if we don't spend all the budget, we get less next year and it makes our job more difficult'
WTF!
-
• #198
^^ that's the case with any budget anywhere, though, not just the public sector.

• #199
something on R4 about this in a moment
