Have you noticed the areas where RLJing is a problem are wealthy areas close to the center of town?

Means the poor fuckers in places like Kensington have got nothing else to worry about. Just wait till some hoodie emergences from the shadows and stabs them to death on their doorstep. That will give them something to think about

hah! sweet, one of the priorities for my local team is "theft and/or taking of pedal cycles"

Just checked the policies of my local group for Nunhead and Queens Road:
- Anti Social Behaviour in general
- Drugs and alcohol misuse / disorder
- Prostitution
Nice!
Anyway, I emailed them whether they can tackle the enforcement of the 20mph zone round my house. Nearly getting ran over everytime I go towards OKR, because commercial vehicles use narrow, residential streets as shortcut by blasting down and ignoring the speed bumps.

I don't know what the priorities of my local filth are. It would be nice if they could close down the Iceland on the High Street though as it ends to attract poor people. And getting rid of one of the pubs would be nice. Oh, and there is a tramp on a bench who could do with moving along

the 3rd priority for my local team is 'Prostitution'

All three of the priorities in my area are anti-social behaviour, just on three different streets. One of the outcomes is listed as: "Two prolific cycle theives were arrested which has impacted positively on reducing cycle thefts in the area."
Thing is, anything that happens between meetings is going to be listed there. Still, it's good news.
I was in court recently waiting for a case to come up and saw a bike thief case. Had a little grin on.

completely agree sparky, but my area is Shep Bush, they are more concerned about dibbles seen around the closing of the crack house, Somali knife gangs and drug dealing.
to be fair i don't think fining cyclists is that high on their agenda, unless he is a somalian, with a knife selling crack

Just a thought, but this might help reduce the number of police out catching RLJers and increase numbers looking for stolen bikes. Read on...
I've just been watching a little BBC clip about RLJers, where a police officer said something along the lines of: "we canvassed the public about what they want us to focus on, and they said RLJ."
This priority comes from an initiative called Safer Neighbourhood Teams - localised groups of two or three coppers who hold public meetings where residents complain about the issues that affect them. They usually come up with three key points, and extra resources are laid on in those areas.
I cover a lot of these for a local paper; it's always something like: anti-social behaviour from kids, speeding in built-up areas and littering. Something like that.
Well, in some parts of London it could well be RLJing, which may be why there are occasional, highly visible clamp-downs. Very often there aren't many people at these meetings, so a handful of votes could be all this is based on.
If forum members made an effort to go to these meetings then perhaps RLJ could be swapped with something useful like bike theft. Like I said, just a thought.
To find your local Safer Neighbourhood Team, go to this website and enter your postcode.
PS. Not advocating RLJing here, but coppers stopping bike thieves has to be better than coppers stopping us, right?
