  • Its odd that the tories can own the whole fucking media and thats ok. maybe people will stop being a bastard to gordon brown now.

  • Being in the position to be kingmakers was just a number game. That priviledge goes to the single party with the lowest number of seats able to make that possible.

  • Can we stop saying 'kingmakers'? It is a term loaded with derogatory implications; that it is dishonest, sneaky, underhand. It's banal and it's a cliche.

  • The party that came in second was the incumbent government so was clearly a rejection of them by the voters.

Still, more people voted Labour than voted Lib Dem.

    +1

  • Still, more people voted Labour than voted Lib Dem.

Hence eliminating them from the kingmaker role.

And no, I won't stop using that term. I don't find it that derogatory and think that it aptly describes the position that the Lib Dems were in.

  • kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker kingmaker

  • If he wants to be a proper kingmaker, he needs to take the Queen out.

what on a date? where would they go?

  • Could probably stop by Harrods, now.

  • Hence eliminating them from the kingmaker role.

Yes, but why should such a role exist anyway? It seems less fair to give such a minority a big say in government.

  • Is it more fair to let a minority government run the country without any of the other elected representatives having a role to play?

  • Yes, but why should such a role exist anyway? It seems less fair to give such a minority a big say in government.

It's not that big a say in government. It's sort of a big say in who is in power but after that the representation in the running of the country is pretty much as proportional as they would have had in any place. Admittedly there is active policy intervention through the incorporated cabinet members but this is tempered by a certain amount of hobbling on issues that they might otherwise have fought hard on, such as Trident and Europe. There is no shortage of price to pay in this role and not everything will be as they wish for the next three or four years.

  • The point is that most people voted liberal and conservative and they believe they've found a policy compromise.

Obviously it's judgement call on number of seats and policy. Obviously lab/con would be biggest, but they could never marry their policies.

The problem I have is that while liberal and tory vote makes majority, a lib/con pact isn't what was voted for. I will find it very hard to vote liberal again, I only did so to keep zac goldsmith out.

  • Because how would we be able to tell Cameron and Clegg apart otherwise?

Why do the party leaders insist on always wearing a tie in the colour of their party?

  • Funnily enough a lib-con pact was what I was kind of hoping for when I voted Liberal. First of all we sack labour and second the Libs will stop the Tories reverting to thatcherism and keep them on the straight and narrow.

Hopefully. It might all go horribly wrong though.

Why did you vote to keep Zac Goldsmith out? Is it just because hes a posh cunt, or because he has lived in Richmond all his life, is a green campaigner, and does lots of charity work in the borough ?

Maybe because he's a Tax dodging cunt?

  • Civil Liberties++++

The parties agree to implement a full programme of measures to reverse the substantial erosion of civil liberties under the Labour Government and roll back state intrusion.

    This will include:

    * A Freedom or Great Repeal Bill.
    * The scrapping of ID card scheme, the National Identity register, the next generation of biometric passports and the Contact Point Database.
    * Outlawing the finger-printing of children at school without parental permission.
     * The extension of the scope of the Freedom of Information Act to provide greater transparency.
    * Adopting the protections of the Scottish model for the DNA database.
    * The protection of historic freedoms through the defence of trial by jury.
    * The restoration of rights to non-violent protest.
    * The review of libel laws to protect freedom of speech.
    * Safeguards against the misuse of anti-terrorism legislation.
    * Further regulation of CCTV.
    * Ending of storage of internet and email records without good reason.
    * A new mechanism to prevent the proliferation of unnecessary new criminal offences.

    w00t :D
