Places not to lock your bike (anywhere near a road)...
Friend and colleague @tapsnbath spotted it when she went for lunch, along with note attached. Spoke to the person that left it who turned out to be the perpetrator. He was apologetic enough despite repeatedly making the point that he was honest enough to fess up.
Told him that new rim and spokes would be eighty quid, and that since he'd owned up and I'm happy to rebuild it myself, I'd let him off the extra £20-30 which that would otherwise cost. Didn't seem to have a problem with that but won't have the cash until he gets paid next month, here's hoping the clumsy twat doesn't have a change of heart in the meantime.

Fairly sure you could true that up with a bit of patience and a hammer, then you can spend the 80 quid on beer.

Yeah, stick a bit of duck tape over the massive split through the rim and it'll be right as rain.
Kind of ironic posting it in here. Not locking it as well might have prevented the damage.

Get onto Murtle, he'll sort it out.
Um, hope you get the money.

A neighbour. Good grief.

Maybe you could get a decent profit from the quick release and sell the wheels?
I assume it would be a fairly decent set on a bike like that. -

Just got my new buildings insurance in, I also asked for cover for my bike, and was amused to see securing method required when parked out in the badlands ...

Rear-wheel stupidity aside, is there such a thing as an immovable object? Any physicists out there?

Fair point, we are on a rotating planet orbiting the sun in an ever expanding universe. There's whole lot of moving going on but I'm sure that an insurance company wouldn't be cunty enough not to pay out, would it?
-

is there such a thing as an immovable object?
Depends on the unstopability of the force applied.
-
• #4345
but I'm sure that an insurance company wouldn't be cunty...
Seriously?

Nice GT mtb leant against the (cylindrical tree protection cage thing), as I leant my bike opposite side, it fell over. Wasn't even locked. So far that's a high score, no lock and no balance.

Not sure if this bike is rubbish or if someone genuinely locked it like that expecting to see it again.

Owner clearly regrets spending money on an ugly bike and wants it stolen

Wildly varying levels of paranoia in the office carpark
I recognised the location when you posted and as I went past recently I saw someone had locked to it for the first time since. Someone's come along with gaffa tape and tried to cover the cut while making it look a bit like more reflective patches. Tore it off to make it more obvious again.
I'll contact Southwark Council tomorrow to report it, but will also keep an eye on the gaffa when I pass.
