Damn, you beat me to it.
Reeen and I were on the way to South Easts, and stopped for a pizza in Hoxton. As we were eating them, the guy who rides this rode up and locked it next to us.
Also, what time did you take yours? It's clearly on the same rack, and I took my picture at around 6, but it's dark on yours, so it must have been there a good few hours.

Less bike theft than here. I should know, I'm from Switzerland!
I live in Norway, and had to leave my bike unlocked outside the local shopping center yesterday, for 2 hours.
I was a bit annoyed that I had'nt taken my little cable lock to work. But chucking the bike in a rack full of unlocked/barely locked bikes made me feel much better.
The extent to which I had to lock stuff up living in Manchester and London seems crazy now.

The photograph was taken at 9. I was telling off my ex-girlfriend for not locking her bike correctly, when I spotted this example of bad-locking next to us.
It survived 3 hours without being stolen at least. -

I'm not going to name and shame until he gets a new one, but this lock, seemingly made of cardboard, was found in the possession of a forum member today at LMNH:

I have one. Does the job were I live. But I reckon you could open it with some carefully folded chewing gum paper.
A key snapped off in mine so I took it back and got a replacement. I was struggling to open it one day, when I realised I had one of my old keys. Meant I had to go through the hassle of wiggling the key for a minute to open it. Comical TBH.

Rubbish picture last night outside Tesco in Surrey Quays about 9:30pm.
Lovely Colnago Lo Pro, Sugino 75's Concord saddle etc etc etc fucking rubbish lock.
If you are on here and that gets stolen you deserve it. Your cranks cost more than my frame and I use 2 d locks there due to high amount of bike theft in the area.
Why use such a shit lock on such a desirable and expensive bike. Shocking.
I suppose the only good thing is if I am every locked up near you I can guarentee my bike will never get stolen.

Only in London is when lock like those are no longer enough, other cities such as amsterdam you can easily freelock it and not worry.
the more I travel the more I realise the problem is London, not the lock.

Its not just London, but very big cities with millions of inhabitants, and a very clear class divide.
Those that do steal, do so because they feel they need to be higher up the ladder, and the money might help. Or it could be for drugs...
I don't think London is worse than cities of similar sizes.

I was in Salisbury last weekend (which I repeatedly forgot was a city - seriously, it's that nice) and saw dozens of bikes lent against restaraunt and coffee shop windows without locks, even at bike racks there was still nothing substantial securing frame to post. I was amazed. But still locked up as normal.

I wouldn't go as far as calling that lock "fucking rubbish"... It's not great but I think the little combination lock ^ upthread that's about the same diameter as a piece of string is "fucking rubbish".
Slack locking though. Was the Colnago a track bike or a conversion?

it's the latter, right now London have the biggest gap between the rich and poor.

size of cities make little difference.

If you consider the different values of those two bikes and the respective locks I would still say it was fucking rubbish it would take seconds to cut through that with the right tool, the one upthread like a piece of string is disgraceful.
There is a serious problem with theft around that area, I lock with a mini fahg and onguard bulldog and still get paranoid, and my bike is worth half the Colnago.
I wish I had paid closer attention to what the bike was but I had been on the beers and was heading to get more so wasn't really looking except for spotting it thinking it was a seriously nice frame and then what the hell is that lock.

If you pry one of the edges open to have a look inside, you will see that there is nothing more than a brake cable inside. This is even true on the big hefty motorbike ones. The pure cable ones are better than the armoured cables, as the armour is just there to disguise the lack of cable inside.
