that same thread shows those not to work, either.
While we're here, what size BB's do I need to glue into allen heads for stem, seatpost, saddle etc?

Under the bridge by Shoreditch tube station a couple of weeks back. I'd love to know whether the owner had the sense to know that if you're not going to lock your bike properly you might as well get to keep the rear wheel, or whether there is a really stupid rear wheel thief out there.
the most annoying things about this is that if he just stopped and thought for one brief second he could lock both wheels and the frame with this one single lock.

Whaddaya mean, "this one single lock"? That is his second lock on the floor. the dickwad thought he would use that to free lock the sheffield stand, so that no one nicked that.

I have hear advice, and it sounds good, that one should use some nice thick grease to stick the BBs into your allen bolts. You are then able to use a magnet to get them out - something which most thieves will not be carrying.

How do they work?

A friend of mine did this, went to a small local DIY shop and they had some spare, just tested various ones to see what fit best, cost him like 50p but he spend like 5 minutes in there, love that place!
Homebase wouldn't do that.

The same size as the allen keys you use on them, i.e. probably some combination of 4 / 5 / 6mm depending on your exact stem / clamp / seatpost.
I have one superglued into my Nitto Pearl stem bolt but I also tried gluing one in the seat binder bolt and that bounced out from road vibration. I have Atomic 22 bolts in there and the saddle clamp now. Nice but pricey.

Really? You no know? Stick a ball bearing in the allen key hole. It means you can't put an allen key into the allen key hole. Which means you can't nick my bike's parts. Until I use a magnet to get the BBs out.
I don't do this.... but I have heard some people do.

...it makes complete sense if the person benefitting from said theft is a nice person like me and not a criminal. It is basically the same as self-service tills at the supermarket. Entrapment.
Yep, I never pay for cheese. I see it the same way you do. I am a nice person, and it would be a shame if some fucking toe rag got hold of the Camembert.

^ fail? For not securing my bike parts, or for answering snottyotter's question? Me no understand
-
• #2690
Snotter was asking how magnets work..
I keep meaning to do the bb thing, it seems like a pretty good idea and loads cheaper than the proven to be fallible pitlocks etc.

• #2691
Wait, the magnet does what?
-
• #2692
Aha.
Quite a lot of people real time hanging out today in Ways not to lock... thread today.

ah, common sense. I assumed maybe a smaller BB would make it slightly easier to apply acetone, in case I need to remove afterwards.,.

Girlfriend will only eat meat or seafood if it's really really nice, ex-wife is hardcore vegetarian and my daughter is pescatarian... Personally I mainly live of beer, whisky and coffee, all traditional vegetarian dishes, also I'm a nice guy really, does that count?

Get on it, although not all beer is veggie.

The main reason vegans exist is to clear their conscience after committing heinous crimes.

They would be very easy to lever or knock out then. As it is I don't think it's the most secure solution - I think if anyone had a bit of a go at it (hitting it or using a pin or whatever) I'm not sure it would put up that much of a fight. It's more to deter opportunists in the hope that they move onto the next bike.

So true.
I've done awful things.
£80 for a flawed product too.
Better off with Pinhead which is a lots cheaper, and cost a little more than those 5 side allen keys skewer (£30-35), about as secure as Pitlock price reflect this better.
