as I was unlocking my bike outside mordor sainsburys last night a young girl around the age of 11/12 rolled up to the stand next to me, hopped off, leant her bike against it and then strolled into tesco's without locking it at all.
I felt compelled to stay and keep an eye on it so I walked to the cash machine just down the road where I was close enough to stop anyone take it who wasn't her but luckily she re-emerged after a couple of minutes to reclaim it. if i'd had the spare key i would have gone over the road to where my girlfriend locks her bike when she rides to the station and taken the £1,99 cable lock she uses on the front wheel to give to her just so she doesnt end up losing it.
kid y u so blasé
Kids/youths are always leaving their bikes unlocked in the porch at the large Hackney Tesco. Apparently turning it upside-down is the new D-lock

Poor employer fail rather than bad locking fail. What else can you do with a shit cycle area than that?
If you can get put the front wheel in the stand and get a lock round the forks, you can stick the bike in the other way round and get the lock through the rear triangle. If you can be arsed to take the front wheel off, that cable would probably be long enough to lock that up as well.

If there's enough room i just put the bike sideways with those racks

Because there isn't enough room I have to do this

Putting your bmx upside down is a quick easy way to stand it up so its nice and stable, i used to do it with my old bmx friends and lock them together with a cheap cable when we just got a Mcdonalds or Subway or what ever, bikes were always in veiw.
not saying its a good way to lock your bike, but there's logic behind it...

Outside my office. I wouldn't leave a bike on Eversholt at all let alone like that even if you were popping in to deliver something...

Himself convinced his employers to get some free Sheffield stands courtesy of TfL. They're in a private courtyard, shared with the flat above the office. Only been there a week, but when he gets to the office today he sees that one of the tenants' bikes has been nicked, leaving only the front wheel chained to the stand.
Seriously, why do people chain their bike up like that? Are they just completely clueless?

Yes.

What exactly is that bike for... Step-through, front sus, mudguards, chainguard... ???
My misses rides one (not the pictured one!) - it's a very smooth, fun ride, and we've taken it off road a few times with no issues. Of course, I'm not a bike expert.

Was at the Hospital so managed to get some pictures of the doctors bikes, cycling is surprisingly popular (considering cycling is unpopular in Birmingham, especially among people with jobs) the bike stands are all double parked, just like London or Oxford which is an unusual sight here.
But all the doctors are bloody awful at locking strategies.
This is best case scenario, on good lock attaching frame to stand.
This an example of the popular weird bikes the ladies are convinced to get by evans salesmen;
The consultants are often cheapskates
Some have good quality practical bikes of a "real cyclist" yet dont see a good lock as a worthy investment.
(Brompton with a luggage combo padlock on a cable)
Slightly impractical but fancy new £1200 MTB, still a string lock;
Many get the good lock but forget to attach it to the wheels;Sometimes they lock both wheels to the frame well but forget to attach it to the stand;
And lastly the very rare person who manages to lock their frame and wheels well, to the stand. Still finds some weird way to fuck up, in this case by carrying an extra cable around for the sake of it.
