I got a Lock N” Roll seatpost QR for my bike I leave at work, had a ball bearing in it before but missed being able to change saddle height easily, works well as only releases when bike is upside down. Still got a ball bearing in the saddle clamp but use hot melt glue rather than superglue, even then takes a while to get it out with craft knife blade.
Whats that on your chain ring?

looks like an alarmed lock of some sort

Badly locked bikes is common enough, what I'm more surprised at, is the derth of lights to be had. People leave them on. They're small, 2 secs to remove, no hastle to carry them. Strange.

especially expensive knog ones, lights that are £15 each, just left on a bike. visible to the whole world!

Claiming "Theft proof" is a bit ambitious...
The "quick and easy solution" if you want your bike posted in this thread.
Sorry for the slight thread dredge, but my flatmate's bike was stolen last night, which has got me thinking about cable locks.
Anyhow, not only is this "theft proof" idea utterly shit, but they can't even spell. Combonation? Please... if you want to market a product, treat your customers with some respect; in other words buy a dictionary. Grrrr*.
*Mis-directed, thesis-related rage.

Theres more info on the alarmed disc lock here. They are designed for fitting to motorbike disc brakes, but fit most chainrings too. If the bike is wobbled for more than about 3 seconds, they emit a 120db siren. Ear-bleeding-ly loud... And attached to your chainring, they can't ride off.

pretty good, but can be embarrassing if you set it of yourself.. lol that would be funny.

Yeah its an XR1, the sensitivity is about right, it gives a warning beep then a few seconds to remove it before alarm goes off when unlocking, and does not beep at all if you unlock it gently. It made it through the winter with no problems after being left out in all weather for nine hours a day, just spray lock with GT85 after rain. The newer ones use a CR2 lithium battery so expect they have longer battery life than the 6 x LR44 Button-cells this one takes, only had to change batteries once since last September so far.

Got a Xena XZZ6 for sale if anyone wants one, few months old. £15.
Its good security but now I have to lock up on quite busy bike racks I can't really use it anymore since I know not to set it off but the person who decided to fumble around locking up their bike next to mine, can be in for an unwanted deafening if they don't realise quick enough.

are kryptonite cables actually any good?

good question. Everyone uses them. I only one through the front wheel.
What they are good for is for idiots running them through your frame when they lock their bike up by yours. Happened to me a few times. infuriating

I have to admit: Earlier today I locked my bike up in a secure manner and then wandered off for a leisurely lunch with a friend for a few hours with a friend.
Upon returning to the bike I rummaged through my pockets and couldn't find my lock key. Becoming slightly alarmed I looked harder and still nothing.
I glanced at the lock and behold, there was my key, still inserted in it for all and sundry to see.
What a twerp.
Luckily, it was locked up in the middle of Aldwych and I think in too busy and open a place for any tea-leaf to venture.

If the key is there, why would anyone stop them. No-one stops if they got an angle grinder, I doubt anyone's gonna question someone unlocking a bike with a key.

I use a kryptonite series 2 lock with 4ft cable... in cambridge, the bike theft capital of the world, apparentley.

Likewise.

I mean that no one was looking for bikes to steal.
The key was only visible on closer inspection. Luckily!

I couldn't agree with you more here, I've already got my eyes on another lock as my new road bike has quick release front wheels.
But it really does make me laugh that people want to spend 1k on a bike then question £50 on a lock when chances are they will look at buying another bike in a few days time.

Repped!

Haha, I left my bike outside unlocked last night.
I woke up this morning, to find my lock next to me, where I had just taken it off and fallen into bed...
Amazingly the bike was still there. To be fair it's a second floor balcony, but that didn't stop it happening to otters, or to the guy on the other monaco langster the other week.
