I won't be dressing up. I hope that others who don't really dig fancy dress won't be put off by this.
@mikec. Not everyone who goes on CM goes for some campaigning reasons, as such. Please don't get all reactionary about it! Like *m.f said, we can have some races and have some fun! It's BLOODY GREAT when we get lovely roads all to ourselves, like park lane or somewhere like that. We can and will make CM what we want it to be - when I go I certainly don't do any of that waving your bike in the air, standing around crossroads shouting, and I tend to try to avoid causing any unnecessary inconvenience to motor traffic that may have had to wait for us to pass. Not everyone there thinks that riding around together is some kind of 'demo' or that we are 'saving the planet'. Some people are there simply because it is enjoyable to be with other cyclists and take part in our city in this way, being sociable was we cyclists are blessed with the means to be with each other as we travel. To make travel enjoyable and not a chore. To enjoy each other's company for a little while before we head off into the 'normal' traffic.
Perhaps the best thing we could do to help reduce carbon emissions is not to cycle more, but just to use less carbon fuels and plastic products, use less electrical things and use cars less. And have less children. I don't see the argument for cycling, per se, as being 'green'. It's LESS harmful than other ways to travel, I grant the campaigners that. Being green is perhaps composting, planting trees, dealing with chemical waste, or restoring natural habitats. Not travelling.
Just saying, loike.

Can't we just wear silly cycling caps? I swear only forumengers wear them.
I is looking forward to this.

Oii Skully. Nooo!
I do enjoy cycling with others and was taking the piss really. As long as we don't have to stop at some chosen embassy or other and shout abuse then its cool

Mike, if there are enough of us, we can decide where the CM will go. It is really very easy. I once had the CM drop me at the end of my road.

That's really only what people do who haven't been on CM a lot. They get overexcited and carried away. It goes in phases--you get people like that for a few months, then they drop off again.
It is important that forumengers who come along familiarise themselves a little bit with how to ride on CM--i.e., you have to ride really slowly if you want to keep it together, stop not infrequently at junctions until everybody has caught up, be disciplined about helping with corking, etc.

Well, that's nice, I glad I'm able to *appear *as if I'm an Old Hand. Which I'm not.
+1 on the keeping the mass together with waiting and corking. Incidentally, it was good to witness the excellent and polite corking at Paul's funeral procession by stalwart members of this forum.

Can I be super newbish and ask what corking is?
