Lance lied for years while being an arrogant cockwhit. He had so many chances to just admit what he did, then he would also just have been seen as flawed. Maybe.
Pantani never had that chance. His mum reckons he was ready to tell all.
We will never know. I don't think you can compare them.
His hcrit was over 40 to >50 in 1993, >60 in 1995, over >50 in 1999 and he died in 2004. Ample time to admit his doping. If he was so ready to tell all why did he continually deny it?

Is cockwhit even a word?

I love how people get SOOOOO outraged by dopers. Did ALL dopers beat up your mum? Did they ALL follow you home from school and steal your pocket money?
No, they did something that didnt effect YOUR life in the slightest.
BUT, did they not entertane you? Did they not inspire you? Did they not get you out on your bike?
RIP Pantani. Legend.I was riding my bike before any of these fuckers started juicing. We didn't even get Tour coverage until I was in uni.
Ask yourself, did the cast of BMX Bandits dope? Did they fuck.

That one is easy. Lance was always a total prick. Pantani was lots of things.
Maybe. Have you met either of them?
It's pretty simple - I'm not judging people's personalities here, I'm putting all the people who cheat in one basket and the rest in another.
How must it feel to be given a 'win' four years down the track because the person who beat you was finally found to be a drug cheat? Or to not ever make a pro team because you refused to stick a needle in your arm?

Not bad numbers for the best car salesman in Italy.

I do like Froome but at the sametime i find him a lil suspicious.
Froome was 83rd at his grand tour debut at the 2008 Vuelta a España, 34th at the 2009 Giro, and was disqualified from the 2010 Giro after taking a pull on a motorcycle for what he said was a planned abandon after suffering a knee injury.
That’s in sharp contrast to Froome’s breakout ride during the 2011 Vuelta, when he lost the race by just 19 seconds to Juanjo Cobo.
Brailsford said it wasn’t until the bilharzia was diagnosed and treated that the real Froome could emerge.-velonewshe's got bilharzia hmmmmmm sure why not

We should just merge this thread into the Marmite thread, or the pie or crumble thread, it's about the same principle as those.

Humans Invent did a Pantani special last week: http://www.humansinvent.com/#!/14811/humans-invent-cycling-podcast-marco-pantani-special/
On balance it's a bit overly-nostalgic, but Daniel Friebe goes into the relationship he had with the Italian people quite well. Explains their ongoing obsession with him in a way that I didn't really understand, despite having read the book he quotes (Pedalare! Pedalare!)

Sure, all we get are impressions. Liking a character is obviously a personal thing.
Ventoux in 2000 when Armstrong catches Pantani close to the line and neither sprint for the finish (though Pantani appears to make some effort). Lance tells the world he 'gifted' that to Pantani, who finds himself patronised and does some sulking.
Both riders are shown by this to be a bit proud, childish, naive. Pantani was Italian – so those qualities are a given! Lance isn't, so what was his excuse? He could have said nothing.
Both were filthy cheats obvs.

Charly Wegelius also explained the italian obsession rather well in his book Domestique.

How quaint. :)
Senna got pretty well distributed (along with Netflix, iTunes etc). I'd hope for the same with this one.
