^^ Sorry, didn't read to end of thread.
I was replying to the announcement of the new Kindle release, stating my preference for a more limited, but possibly more gratifying in use device. -

Not sure when the paperwhites will be for sale over here. I like the built in light function as well, pretty neat

Ok ordered the new £69 kindle ... that will tide me over till I'm stateside and able to buy the paperwhite version.

Tempted by the paper white. 179 dollars for the 3g version though.

Just ordered the basic kindle as a surprise gift for my girlfriend to say thanks for being so supportive through my accident/claim process.
as the moment I've just ordered the kindle itself but am wondering if there are any essential accessories that I should get her to go with it?

I would recommend a case... murts does a nice one.
-
• #886
she wasn't that supportive :]
ha, I'm going to let her choose a case as i think they're a personal thing. but she did coo a bit when I showed her some of Murts handiwork a few weeks back.

He's on holiday for a couple of weeks anyway so i guess it depends if he's back or not before the gift is due to be handed over.

The light is a godsend enabling you to comfortably read it in a tent without jiggling with the bike light to read the Kindle in an awkward posture.
Definitely getting one for that reason.

Already pre-ordered mine.

Me too.
I'd classified it as the first proper upgrade since the Kindle 3G (Keyboard).
The Kindle Touch actually hurt my eyes.
A single charge lasts up to eight weeks, based on half an hour of reading per day with wireless off and the light setting at 10. Battery life will vary based on light and wireless usage
I just hope that mean it last longer without light.

That'll be a fantastic bit of kit.

hmmm Kindle 3G £169 or $179. Think I'll wait till state side
