  • confused me, what limits you with track geo?

  • I'm not saying it limits anything, I'm saying track bikes have track ends. Nothing else does.

If you want to ride fixed and not be limited to a track frame then this is the best option.

  • Plenty of frames with track ends without track geometry. Having had a conversion I'd never go down that route again. If you have a frame you love and fits perfectly sans track ends you could always get a frame builder to retro fit some for about £100.

And I though the magic gear was managing it without resorting to half link?

I ride a 1960/70s steel track frame, geometry is absolutely spot on and it looks boss

  • Surly steamroller for a start.

anyway, making a big deal out of nothing, just my opinion.

£100 and a paint job. I don't understand how no one is grasping my point here? Feels pretty simple to me.

If it helps, I spent a lot less than £110 on the hub...

True, but I think I'll stick to a custom, one of a kind vintage TT lo pro that fits me like a glove. ;)

  • I think the feeling is it's solution to a problem that doesn't need to be one if you just buy a bike with track ends

Unless you don't want a bike with track ends. Which is the whole point.

  • using it on a shitty conversion

    not all conversions are shit

If you're riding single speed why wouldn't you want track ends? Vertical drop outs for riding fixed is like eating soup with a fork.

Sure it can work, all power to people that do it with an eccentric hub, but you may as well use a frame with ends designed to be ridden fixed or single speed to ride fixed or single speed.

  • Yawn. Your debating skills are awesome.

  • and now's there's an irritating gif on the page to boot.

  • not all conversions are shit

    I never said that.

I ride 2 and you got one of the best.

Well if you want to continue... But I'd say it's just going to get just as repetitive as the GIF.

you may as well use a frame with ends designed to be ridden fixed or single speed to ride fixed or single speed.

    UNLESS YOU DON'T WANT TO.

    See?

  • Wut?

  • I think RJB is suggesting that people may want to convert a geared CX/road bike to SS/fixed. To do this is easiest with an eccentric hub, and if you need a new hub anyway (switching from geared to SS) then why not go eccentric?

    Lovely and concise.

There's a huge range of cheap road frame that make a great fixed wheel bicycle.

The WI Eccentric hubs is probably going to be a bit redundant now that road frame come with BB30, mean a cheaper £30 adaptor to convert the BB30 into an eccentric BB with normal bottom bracket.

  • Wow. Thanks for clearing all of that up.

  • I don't even know why anyone would wanna ride a bike anyway, they are gay.

  • Lovely and concise.

If you get that, then you should also get JF's point. Conversion = cheap. Eno hub = not cheap. Going eccentric is the the long way round of doing stuff (Buy hub, rim, spokes, build wheel etc) Financially, it makes more sense to buy a bike frame with track ends, as it is the simpler option for someone who wants to ride a single speed bike both financially and mechanically.

Also remember, most people don't know about eno hubs.
This whole argument is kinda pointless because neither is wrong or right.

  • I've converted a road frame by the way, rode one for a couple of years. It's fine, but getting a dedicated SS frame is still a better solution. That was the counter point.

  • Conversion - modify a road frame, when people often stab you in the face for "ruining" it with track end.

  • And from an aesthetic point of view a dedicated SS frame will have much cleaner lines and tighter clearances.

    So girls like you more.
