Am i the only one who thinks that bike probably doesn't belong in here? Just a nice frame that's been stripped, not even rusty

Not sure either but ti does look like there are little bits of paint left, is the fork painted or rusty?

^^^I kind of agree but I'd rather see this thread have the occasional lapse like that than the barrage of rusty shoppers that come up with a quick google search of rusty bike, or the atrocities that have been allowed thanks to the "frankenbike" in the thread title.

if i leave it as is its going to rust the fuck out.....whats a good technique to protect the steel a little? how well does just the lacquer work?

Very good, my frame hasn't got a spec of rust and it was clearcoated at Armourtex around 3 years ago I think.

Frame is original raleigh paint and is pretty scruffy so ill call it a beater

Based on that 'safety' lever, I'd call it death on two wheels.
Remove it and leave the functional part of the lever on there.

Recently had my forks straightened and reinforced.

Nice bike! and the forks belong here, but the bike as a whole is debatable.

Just to get this out of the way - in all likelyhood it's a french frame with a fancy italian name on. Explains all the french bits, threads etc. Rides well enough though, too bad the fork's made of pudding.
