No, it belongs in the skip.

That's a lock not a brake.
No it's a brake.
-
• #3454
one of the best bikes ever.
Know what you mean. Every time I see it it grows on me more, and I liked it in the first place! Really is an almost perfect rat. just wish I had one the same in a 58cm frame... sigh
shit front tyre though.

^^ Orly? Then why does it have no brake pads and a coaster brake?
-
• #3456
It's a lock. ffs.
or a brake if you lock it while you're rollin'.
-
• #3457
^^ I suppose it could be a brake if you were to lock it whilst moving.
-
• #3458
Why is it attached to the brake mounts then?
-
• #3459
Have you ever seen a dutch bike?
-
• #3460
^^^too late.
-
• #3461
No it's a brake.
No. You're a brake.
-
• #3462
It is most definitely NOT a brake, its a lock, I can even see where the locking bar goes through the spokes to lock the rear wheel into position.
Only in Holland would this work how ever as here they'd just walk off with the whole bike under their arm.

It's a Basta Horseshoe Lock
http://idealist-realist.blogspot.co.uk/2011/06/my-ride-5-finished.html
and it's shit
-

Its a lock alright. yeah that was why it was laying around for so long. But after using it for some time now I got to like it.
Im not afraid anyo9ne liking the bike so much to carry it away. Would miss the Kris Holm rim though.... and my carbon seatpost.

Wouldnt want to clog up a otherwise good thread, but if the bike is a frankenbike, then what would you call this ;-)
-
• #3466
please explain what the heck is going on with the front axle forward extension on the bike with the horseshoe lock
just for laughs? for rake?
-
• #3467
I guess part of it is just an easy way of moving the wheel forward on a straight bar....
... although cutting the top of the bar at an angle might have been easier. One less braze.
-
• #3468
the front axle forward extension is indeed fork rake (dono wat else to call it) and its to reduce trail. Reduces sluggish and slow steering and makes it a nimble and precise steering horse. the origin was a prototype with adjustable camber on the wheel, hence the forward tube.
Cutting the top of the bar at an angle is a nono for me. Somehow bike with forks like that make me throw up. Although the front extention doesnt look any better.. but it was at hand.

But I think the question is why do it that way.
This http://pedalrevolutionblog.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/feather_mango1.jpg
...has a straight fork, but the way they have pushed the front wheel forward is by having the fork blades at an angle to the steerer tube.
Your fork blade looks like it runs straight into the steerer tube.
How come?

Thats what i tried to explain above. Let me try again in a different way. I already felt the interest was genuine :-) Sorry if my post expressed different.
The original idea of the no fork bike was to have the tube to the front wheel (balki interface) run straight down from the steerer tube. In real this is so awesomely clean and simple!
Anyway, the fuji is so contra that. Once your eye falls on the angle between the head tube and the fork, arhrgg. I cant stand it, looks so wrong.Somehow fork rake and aesthetics dont seem to mix. A nice bend in the fork works best for me now.
Hope my reason and objecttive is a bit clearer now? Communication not being my strongest point haha Maybe someone else who understands can explain better.

.........sorry i asked.
-
• #3473
Is the fork rigid like that? I'd probably weld some triangle gussets down there
-
• #3474
kind of like an oversize version of a trick fork
-
• #3475
Srry if i missed something John, I thought your lock was already answered.
Yeah, the fork feels rigid as hell. But thats also due to narrow tires on much too wide rims. Personally I thought it wouldnt last a week...
Frankenbikes ruining the thread yet again.
