That's the beautiful Brie from TCB.
She is a real cool dud!

The brake is stupid. Especially as it's the only one.
Why is it stupid?
A lot of custom motorbikes only have a rear brake, mostly US choppers, but its not exactly anything new (although I agree I'd want a front too).
As for its position, its as good there as anywhere else in the drive train, it doesn't necessarily have to attached to the hub, I think its an innovative idea. -

If the chain snaps of comes off, how are you going to stop?

That chain doesn't look like it's about to snap any time soon.
-
• #3231
There is that, but look at the chain, its a motorbike chain, they really don't snap too often, especially with the very limited power thats gonna put out...
I just thought it was a fun thing to have done and it is a complete Frankenstein of a bike!
Totally impractical, but sometimes you wanna do something because its a bit silly and you wanna see what happens! ;P

looks like that fork has disc tabs too, and front hubs with disc mounts will fit in there fine, so why the extra effort for a less than ideal brake?
Like the rest of it though, any video's of it? -
• #3236
Yeah, the fork is a standard MTB fork, so I would've fitted a disc there too.
Guess they were going for the stripped down motorbike look.
Unfortunately it was a random tumblr find, so don't know anymore than whats there. -

MIG welding is fairly easy and not too expensive. I have this - http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/100e-mig-welder which is fine for up to 3mm thick steel. You then have to add the cost of a mask and gloves, auto darkening makes it much easier. Cheap masks are about £50.
Damn you sir for introducing me to that site shakes fist defiantly at the sky, I have a distinct impression that a lot of money will be being taken from my bank account and being deposited in theirs in the not to distant future!

i will say it once more:
the st cutout is misaligned with the wheel...No it's not. It's just hard to get decent pic from the cutout with 50mm lens.
And hey guys! Do not take too seriously that Konga bike :)

there's some good information on here: http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/index.php about welding and brazing.

I remember trawling through my Dads RS and Maplin catalogs as a kid! Brings back memories.

Take it thats your project Konga?
If so, seriously well done mate, love it.

Pasipanopane, are you one the MIG forum? I keep finding people on there from other forums.

Sweet! Have bookmarked that, nice one. I think I need to spend a few hundred quid on a mig welder, mask, pillar drill, proper vice, angle grinder, bench mounted grinder and sander, and a load of old frames to practice on.
-
• #3246
You can make do without the pillar drill and the bench mounted grinder. Makes things easier obviously but they're not essential. Now that I've chopped up a few frames I want to get a lathe and a mill... I think a TIG kit will come first though
-
• #3247
I want them for precision really.
As for a lathe and mill, would also love to have them, but that would cost more than all the other stuff put together!
But in an ideal world, I would have them too, a full workshop, MIG, brazing, and TIG gear and all the sheet metal, tubing, and billet I could use.
-
• #3248
I think I'm gonna pop into the local council tip tomorrow and see if they've got any old frames I can have.
Just hope sensibility rules the day and not health and safety regs.
Think I know someone who might have a MIG welder he's not using, try and get hold of him.
I've been saying I want to do this for yonks, maybe its about time I did!
-
• #3249
Unfortunately I think you'll be disappointed. There have been no scrap bikes at my local tip for about 3 years now. I think (certainly in Essex) that the bikes given to the tip were officially deemed council property recently so you can't chat the to the blokes there and get them to give you one for a drink like in the old days, cos they've been told not to by higher powers.
Seems like I'm on the side of the beurecrats a lot in this thread, but I'm not, just trying to save you some wasted effort
The place to go is somewhere that 'recycles' bikes. They've been good to me in the past

I thought as much tbh.
In this country common sense is outlawed in favor of a set of regulations dreamt up by a man in a suit who has never, and will never, go anywhere near where his rules will apply.
One of my pet peeves in this country is health and safety regs, can transform me in a matter of seconds from a calm laid back guy to a ranting red faced lunatic!
Oh well, will try nonetheless, but also give any bike recycling efforts a call too.
Cheers for the advice.
