Trying to count the chainrings is a mindfuck. Assuming theres 5, is there any logical reason to run that many chains? Incase 4 snap? Just seems like it would be a bitch to clean

I doubt they're all at exactly the same stage of elongation, so surely only one will be getting the full force applied through it?

The more heavily loaded ones will wear faster, so eventually everything gets synched up.
Duplex and Triplex chain is a pretty ordinary thing in power transmission, albeit with rivets all the way across and shared side plates
