  • Quite a large choice of disc 29er rims which are still light (as intended for XC). Afew mentioned above.

They do look bulkier than road rims though but good if you plan to run a wider tyre or fancy something a bit burlier.

Need to be careful about the internal width (bead width) though. The 700C VXC are thin 29er rims really, but have a inner width of around 21mm so should be good to go for road tyres.

But yeah, alot of XC 29 rims would work.

Not really wanting to run a wider tyre, the widest I'll be running is a 28mm

  • Lots of XC 29er rims are around 23mm external width, and therefore should be OK with 23mm tyres.

    WTB Dual duty.

    DT Swiss TK 540

  • This is messing with my head. 700c and 29er are the same thing pretty much right, except 29er rims are usually a bit wider to accommodate fatter tyres, right?

SO if I'm looking for a 36h all black 700c non deep section rim that takes a max sized tyre of 28mm, then this is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for (I can handle how it's a bit deeper than I wnated) :

  • open pro ceramic

  • Those halo ones are cheaper and are mountain bike rims, stronger?

  • Rigida matrixx ......... Rigida Taurus

  • If put 28mm tyres on the halo freedom/other 29er rims is that gonna stretch out the tyres and make them fatter than if they were on the open pros?

    No common sense.

  • ^where can you find rigida matrixx online?

  • All I know is that rigida's website has them on there. i'm sure a friendly LBS will order them for you, if they deal in other Rigida products. They look lovely huh!?

  • yeah they do!

  • mavic a317 disc rims.

    won't have a braking surface

  • Sorry don't mean to derail, does anywhere in the UK stocks Velocity Aero's ?

Recently ordered them in black. 21x20

  • ^From the states?... or asked BLB to order them in?

BLB quoted me ~£45 a rim.... just wonder if its worth the extra over an open pro just for looks...

Also how are you finding them?

BLB ordered them, £75 all in, haven't arrived yet

  • aeros are really similar to the mavic cxp12 right?

  • Kinda, and Campy Omegas

    Are you sure?

They'll usually be 19mm internal? 19 is too wide to be good for anything thinner than 28c (with best performance from 32c). Any smaller and they're flexing so much they'll be slow and uncomfortable.

    +1 NOS Omegas FTW.

  • ^ just sold a black pair of NOS on ebay for £95

  • I have a NOS Campy Omega 32H on me now, tub.
I'm umming and ahhing about building it up or just selling it...

  • *Features Maxtal aluminum, arc welded seam(SUP) and double eyelets for greater strength and durability. The machined braking surface(UB) makes for superb and consistent braking performance.*

  • Aren;t they tubs?

  • Yes, tubulars.
