Recce'ing the route is cheating.
Doing it sober is cheating.
Doing it with a freewheel may or may not be cheating depending on which bike I use ;)I seem to be only succeeding in physching myself out, I think I need to work on my cheating technique.

if you can't ride up it, walk up it. what is the big deal? its not a race, is it?
-
• #55
I actually went and rode up it yesterday since I'd forgot the clock change and missed the club run. It looks ok and then you go around the corner and it looks a lot steeper. I could ride it 44x19 sitting down (although I didn't as half way my fucked knee really starting giving me grief) and it's not too long if you were going to walk it. There's also a cheater option to skip it if need be.
Saw a guy at the top taking photos on a road bike. He's riding Etape du Caledonia. That is all.

are you gonna do this fixed hippy?
-
• #57
Probably.
I was going to use it as a last hurrah for the Rubble but I might have the new bike built before then so it would also be a nice ride on the new machine as well. So, err, I dunno for sure. -

Couldn't agree agree more joe smith, although i am quite excited as i have never done anything like this before. Previously my riding has been a couple of miles to the pub and back so this is quite a big effort for me. so i aim to enjoy myself first, finish and then have a birthday beer.

Balls. Did you ask in Brixton Cycles?
Yup. In person.
I'd say turn up on the day and speak with the organisers. I did the Surrey Rumble like this. People will always drop out on the day.
I mailed the dude and asked him exactly this - he said by all means turn up and if people don't show I can go. He said I wouldn't get an info pack or whatever but not really bothered about that.

In a last minute burst of enthusiasm called Brixton Cycles but all entries are used up - even the last few entry forms at their shop :/
Am super keen to do this - is there anyone who has to cancel due to another engagement or something and able to transfer their entry?

just rocking up is all very well, but if i'm not allowed to follow the route i'd rather not be in crystal palace at 730am on Sunday pointlessly - if you see what i mean ;) better to get something lined up i think.
i guess i could just follow the route as a 'renegade' or whatever, but definitely want to respect the orgas in this regard.

Well that was the word from the organiser.

they do a nice breakfast in cafe st germain, there are lots of nice pubs and restaraunts on the triangle and the park is nice. make a day of it in crystal palace. not a wasted journey...

Hello
We're getting a few can't make its now and I'd anticipate a few more before the weekend - if anybody not registered to ride want to come along you're more than welcome - we might run out of free gifts but we can still enter you into our post-ride raffle.

i haven't got my road bike out of storage, so it looks like i am doing this fixed on 48/19 - 66.5 GI. That is virtually the same as 51/20 actually (67.1). Worked out asuming 700x23 tyres.
-
• #73
48x19 is 68.2"
44x19 is 62.5" (mine)We don't take kindly to folks be using 700Cx23 measurements for calculatin' their gear inches, y'hear boy? x 27 FTW
-

whatever.
i calculate on what i ride, innit?
-

am considering 48 x 20 actually... hmmmm...
