• Had some nobhead BMW driver inches away from my rear wheel, honking his horn at me as I was preparing to turn right because I refused to change lanes. Not missing my turn off seemed more important than him going the extra 5mph the car in front was managing in heavy traffic. To be fair after he shouted at me out of his window he was polite enough to shut up when I asked him to.

  • 90mph in a 30, while overtaking a cyclist on a crossing. Speeding driver gets a ban, police officers don't understand why it was handled as an SP30 rather than dangerous driving:

  • The muppet I reported in November for close passing me (on a fucking tight corner as well so obvs I went round it faster than they did and then had to brake in order to avoid going into their stupid rear end) and then jumping a red light is being prosecuted. I suspect the RLJ swung this in my favour, but driving without reasonable consideration for other road users is also listed as a charge.

  • Not reported anyone for a while. Just had to report 2 absolute shit eaters.

  • I've had a bunch post Christmas but found I was turning the camera on then holding the button rather than pressing it, which doesn't record. Bollocks.

  • Cycling in Richmond Park trialling my latest road build. Going down Broomfield Hill (after the parking lot), it's me, a few other cyclists, a mini in front of us, and two or three other cars in front of the Mini, and another cyclist or two - the usual Richmond Park mix, going a bit but not much under the speed limit.

Halfway to the roundabout, the mini driver suddenly decides to overtake the cars in front of them, which is pretty unsafe in the best of cases. In this specific case, there was an oncoming cyclist just a few dozen metres on. The mini, having overtaken one, but not all of the cars in front of them, ends up having to brake suddenly and squeeze back in, almost hitting the car it just overtook. General disapproval by everybody followed.

What the actual fuck do idiots like that think? Do they think at all?

  • Do they think at all?

    no

edit: maybe about what theyre having for tea, but not driving

  • What's a parking lot?

  • More than a parking little, less than a parking most.

  • a hair more than a parking many

  • What the actual fuck do idiots like that think?

They think 'it's just a bike it doesn't count'. I'm surprised the Mini pulled in. Round here they'd just expect you to make space for them and the artic they're overtaking, making it briefly three abreast on a single carriageway.

  • Is that where you’re not suppose to overtake too? (Road marking)

  • Not to my knowledge, there are essentially no road markings at all there beyond the speed limit. But even so, and even without any cyclists around, trying to overtake 3+ cars in front of you on a rather windy narrow road with very limited visibility is daft.

  • Is that where you’re not suppose to overtake too? (Road marking)

There are no parts where overtaking is prohibited. You can still cross the solid white line(s) in the middle of the road to overtake under certain circumstances (HWC Rule 129):-

    "
Double white lines where the line nearest you is solid. This means you MUST NOT cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16 km/h) or less.

    Laws RTA 1988 sect 36 & TSRGD regs 10 & 26
    "

Of course, almost every overtake I get on those types of sections (usually coming up Dark Hill as I rarely do anything other than anti-clockwise) the road ahead is not properly clear and I've had some very close calls on people getting it wrong (either nearly hitting something coming down the hill or pulling back in very close to my front wheel to avoid doing so).

Then again, I often overtake cars going down Broomfield Hill by crossing those very same white lines whilst going way over 20mph, so I'm not exactly fully law abiding myself.

  • Standard. I'll upload the video later.

I am writing concerning your allegation to police relating to the manner in which a motor vehicle bearing the registration mark KD56PWV was being driven.

I would advise you that the Metropolitan Police Service will investigate all allegations where there is a realistic prospect of achieving a successful prosecution at court.

After reviewing the evidence provided, it has been determined that the best course of action in this case is to warn the owner/keeper of their conduct regarding their manor of driving. A record of the incident will be kept within this office.

    Yours faithfully, Allegations Unit

  • manor of driving

    Deary me.

  • "the manor of the driving"

  • Received the exact same email (including 'manor') regarding this guy
    and this guy
    .

  • It's always the way they never look so bad from a camera video. I know from personal experience passes that can look perfectly fine on a video are terrible. I think someone dealing with the videos needs perspective on that.

This was mine... skip to 0:10

  • Oof, they cut that close before the island! Can you complain about the response?

  • I replied politely saying WTF. I will escalate it to twitter if that fails + formal complaint.

    I was doing 20mph, in a 20mph zone.

  • Shit responses from the police!

One of the advantages of the cycliq cameras is the overlay lines that actually show how close a vehicle was.

  • Another driver who has only received a warning about the 'manor' of their driving, despite the video evidence clearly showing them going straight through a ped crossing 3 seconds after the lights went red, without even touching the brakes.

I understand that there will always be a degree of subjectivity when it comes to things like close passes, but when even cases like this, that should be open-and-shut, are not dealt with, it really makes me question the point of submitting anything at all.

  • There are simply far too many reports of this nature, and far too much video footage to view, to make it realistic to prosecute all the drivers.

Obviously, it makes the authorities and the laws look bad, as, having created this reporting mechanism, they now can't cope with it all, whereas if the mechanism didn't exist they could shrug their shoulders and claim they didn't know about it.

It's still better than nothing--what you get from it are more severe cases that get prosecuted. I'm sure that it also generates evidence on drivers who habitually flout the rules while driving, which can then be used in court in case they ever have a more serious crash.

  • Indeed, one would hope it all goes into some database where they can see how many times they've passed up attempting prosecution on a particular driver (well, vehicle). Once it starts to get too high (because the drivers keep doing the same things that don't have any immediate consequences 99.9% of the time) you'd hope the Police/CPS would say "ok, enough" and send out the NIP.

    Hope though...
